Tips for Original Pancake House

Made-to-order breakfasts---including over a dozen unique flapjacks---stack the odds in this restaurant's favor.. In Short
Founded in Oregon circa 1953, this simply-furnished spot owes its success to its creative menu and fresh ingredients. Batters are made on the premises; a special "sourdough starter" keeps treats from tasting overly sweet. Patrons choose from eggs, waffles, crepes and oven-baked omelets, as well as signature plates like blueberry pancakes (served with or without compote), giant cinnamon-glazed apple pancakes, thin and chewy "49-ers" and the air-filled, lemon-and-sugar-topped "Dutch Baby."

Out of this world pancakes. We wanted to find a good, affordable breakfast to eat before going sight seeing. We ended up eating breakfast here two out of the three mornings we were in Chicago. It is a place you cannot miss. The first morning I had pigs in a blanket, which was sausage wrapped in pancakes. The pancakes were fluffy and the sausage was perfectly cooked. My boyfriend also had pancakes and eggs which were equally asgood. The service was very friendly, and even helped recommend what was good on the menu as there is so much to choose from especially if you have never been before. The price was very affordable and they give you big portions so it is perfect right before you have a busy day of sight seeing. Also, was told the lines can get really long on the weekend, and would recommend if you wanna try this place out good early. We were there before 7:30 and 8 both mornings. Two thumbs up!

Fabulous. The german and apple pancakes are not to be missed. Omelettes are very fluffy, moist and beyond comparison. My favorite breakfast in Chicago. Well worth the wait.

Apple pancake was awesome. My girlfriends and I found this place a few years ago while in Chicago and we were here this past weekend and had to go again. We waited in line for approx. half hour, but well worth the wait. We shared the apple pancake between 3 of us as it was so large, and we each had sides of eggs. Service was quick. We will definately go back again.

Best Breakfast. The food here is so yummy! They only serve breakfast and they have the best buttermilk pancakes I've ever had! We have breakfast here quite often! Yea, the line can get pretty long but it normally goes pretty quickly and if it doesn't it's totally worth the wait! You must try if you are in the area!

Awesome Omelet!!. If you want an omelet... this is the place. I know the name of the location is Pancake house, but they serve up a vicious omelet!!!!

Weekends - Make sure to go a bit early because there usually is quite a line

Apple Pancake gets A+. Small, crowded and full of local business people during the week, the whole experience was fantastic. When we travel, this is the kind of place we look for (we hate tourist traps) The food was served quickly, and it was hot and delicious. I would highly recommend the apple pancake, a house speciality.

If you want to experience some real "Chicago" flavor, this is the place! But, bring cash...they don't accept American Express or any other credit cards.

Classic breakfast in the Gold Coast. Located just one block north of Oak St. this place seems a bit out of place amongst the high-rises and boutique shops. Come early if you don't like waiting in line. Service is effecient, but not rude. Food is standard breakfast fare. My wife didn't like the taste of the pancakes, and I agree that they tasted different than what we're used to in our usual pancake shop back home. Omelettes are the 'fluffy/skillet-baked' style, I enjoyed the Southwestern Skillet which has Chorizo sausage and comes with side of salsa. Convenient and cheap, the only place we visited twice on our vacation. Get a flavor of real Chicagoans here.

Best pancake chain in Chicago by far. Superb breakfast food. Wonderfully varied menu, offering all sorts of different pancakes, crepes, omelets, and other items. And, they have sausage patties, one of my favorites but which I can't find everywhere. My only problem with the place is that I'm tempted to overeat when I come here because everything is so good!
