Editorial Review for Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse – by Alice Van Housen
In Short
Expect big food, big drinks and big crowds of big-shouldered Chicagoans--and a parade of celebs. The jam-packed bar resounds with open outcry, equal parts drink orders and well-oiled come-ons. The restaurant is wood and windows, green plaid and white tablecloths, red booths and wall-of-fame photos. The menu offers huge portions of classic steakhouse fare--22-ounce bone-in rib eyes, filet mignon, lobster tails and planked whitefish. Sides (for two) include garlicky sauteed spinach and fries.

Made the trek to Gibson's. This is a hard one to review. First off, it's a cool place where you will definitely see any celebs in town for whatever the reason. The place is always brimming with people and does have a good bar and a fun vibe. Here is the problem. The food is overrated and the service and the attitude goes a long way in me giving this a below average rating. I gues because there is so many people walking in the door all the time that Gibson's doesn't have to go out of their way to make you happy. I just didn't get the feeling that the place really cared if I was there, enjoying myself, or not. Foodwise, yes it's good. But its not great. Its just the attitude that turns me off. I actually had better luck at the Gibson's in Rosemont. Better service, more friendly staff, and i thought the food was better. Go to Gibson's if you want the "see and be seen" arena. If you want a good steak, there are better places in Chicago without the attitude.

Flew from the Beverley Hills Hotel in Rome on the advise of American BOB Poulsom, unfortunately was a wasted journey as food was not as expected and service was poor. Sorry BOB but wasted $1200 on a flight to taste your recommended food. The steak was done the way they wanted it not the way I wanted which was a big dissapointment. Celebs present but hey, I was there to eat good food. Shame I looked forward to it after the big run up giving by Bob In Rome. No hard feelings Bob and your Girlfriend is lovely Bob.
Pros: Celebs.......wooopppiiii
Cons: Parking, Service, Ambience
