Friendly yet classy. We had some interesting items: fois gras. Great specials.

Steak was delicious. The service was very friendly and the atmosphere was fun. Not stuffy at all.

Host was rude, food was above average. We were greeted rudely by the host because we were 10 minutes late. We were told that he had "other diners to accomodate on this busy night" when only half the tables were filled by the time we had finished dinner. The food was above average. The service was at best mediocre. The setting was not bad--however, we were told by a nearby diner to keep it down because we were "spoiling her dining experience" when in actuality we were speaking at conversation level. If you like to be treated rudely, burn a hole in your wallet for above average food and mediocre service, and be told by elitists that you are ruining their night of dinner, I suggest you try the Saloon Steakhouse. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Excellent place for steak. My wife and I made reservations here before going to see "Spelling Bee" at the Drury Lane Theatre, which is just up the street. We were seated quickly and our server was excellent, taking care of cocktails and our orders. The food was top-notch all around, soup and salad, I had filet medallions with bleu cheese and my wife had a petit filet. Mine was a little overcooked but excellent none the less. The au gratin potatoes were made with pepperjack cheese of some sort and were the best we have every tasted, just the right amount of zip. The servers bring around a tray of different cuts of steak if you need help in deciding what to order.

overrated. The restaurant was really crowded and hot on a Saturday evening. Steak was good. Service was really good! Grilled chicken caesar salad was also good. Go there if you have the money.

Mediocre. I went to Saloon looking forward to a juicy, melt-in-my-mouth kobe (wagyu) steak. I ordered medium-rare, and got medium/medium-well...I would've sent it back, but after waiting almost 1 hour for my food, I decided to just suck it up and eat it.

The mashed potatoes were fantastic, and the martinis were top-notch...however, the fact that they screwed up my kobe filet is just inexcusable.

Frankly, I'm surprised it's rated so high.

Awesome. I have eaten there a couple of times, and there food is the best I have ever had. I had the Wagyu New York Strip, which was outstanding and cooked exactly the way I wanted it. The Baked Oysters Rockefeller are so good. The cheesy Gratin Potatoes are to die for. I don't think that you could ever leave there unhappy. They might need a wheel chair to wheel you out, because the food is so awesome you will want to finish it all. The staff was so nice and polite both times that I went there. If you want a great meal with great service, you will definitely have to stop by there.

LOVED IT!!. This was probably one of the best steak houses that I've ever been to. The service was excellent, they do a very nice "meat presentation" before you order - so you know exactly what your options are. I had the Kobe Beef Filet and Au Gratin Potatoes, some of the best stuff I've ever eaten. The waitress was also able to suggest a nice wine to go with it. Be sure to make a reservation, this place gets packed. If I'm ever back in Chicago, I would definitely make a stop here again!!

AWESOME!. I have lived in the city for a few years and I am actually surprised I haven't heard of this place.

I was on a first date and he took me to the Saloon where we were immediately welcomed by the hostess. The waitstaff was phenomenal and even more importantly my bone-in steak, bacon bits mashed potatoes and asparagus was probably one of the best meals I've had in the city. It was a little loud but the ambience was worth going I will definitely be back and I'll be brining my friends along as well. Very impressed.

A warm atmosphere and an excellent steakhouse menu make this a local favorite.. The Scene
You can find glitzier steakhouses in the city, but it's hard to beat the Saloon for comfort. A cozy room on the ground floor of the charming Seneca Hotel, the Saloon glows with romantic amber light, and the handsome decor--rust-colored walls, brass table lamps, black and white photography--enhances the intimate scene. A sophisticated crowd of Streeterville regulars hunkers down in booths and at the bar; amiable, seen-it-all servers provide efficient, well-paced service.

The Food
Expertly prepared American fare puts this restaurant right up there with Chicago's top red-meat joints. Portions are huge, but it's still hard to say no to starters like moist, meaty lump crab cake or prime rib quesadillas. On the lighter side, there's ripe beefsteak tomatoes and onions with crumbled blue cheese. However, these are all just warm-ups to the steaks, which include a tender, sliced NY strip with bordelaise sauce, and the deservedly famous bone-in filet, a juicy, smoky prime cut that's worth fasting for. You won't have room, but white-chocolate croissant pudding is a must for dessert.

2nd best is not bad. Great place to spot those famous athlets, great sophisticated atmoshere, near the Hancock Tower, what more can you ask for. Oh and did I mention that you can get in there faster than Gibsons, and there steaks are just as tasty.
