The Scene – You can find glitzier steakhouses in the city, but it's hard to beat the Saloon for comfort. A cozy room on the ground floor of the charming Seneca Hotel, the Saloon glows with romantic amber light, and the handsome decor--rust-colored walls, brass table lamps, black and white photography--enhances the intimate scene. A sophisticated crowd of Streeterville regulars hunkers down in booths and at the bar; amiable, seen-it-all servers provide efficient, well-paced service. – – The Food – Expertly prepared American fare puts this restaurant right up there with…
Friendly yet classy

We had some interesting items: fois gras. Great specials.
Steak was delicious. The service was very friendly and the atmosphere was fun. Not stuffy at all.
Host was rude, food was above average
by rljohnsonjr
We were greeted rudely by the host because we were 10 minutes late. We were told that he had "other diners to accomodate on this busy night" when only half the tables were filled by the time we had finished dinner. The food was above average. The service was at best mediocre. The setting was not bad--however, we were told by a nearby diner to keep it down because we were "spoiling her dining experience" when in actuality we were speaking at conversation level. If you like to be treated rudely, burn a hole in your wallet for above average food and mediocre service, and be told by elitists that you are ruining their night of dinner, I suggest you try the Saloon Steakhouse. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Excellent place for steak
by mlturner
My wife and I made reservations here before going to see "Spelling Bee" at the Drury Lane Theatre, which is just up the street. We were seated quickly and our server was excellent, taking care of cocktails and our orders. The food was top-notch all around, soup and salad, I had filet medallions with bleu cheese and my wife had a petit filet. Mine was a little overcooked but excellent none the less. The au gratin potatoes were made with pepperjack cheese of some sort and were the best we have every tasted, just the right amount of zip. The servers bring around a tray of different cuts of steak if you need help in deciding what to order.
- Pros: great food, cozy
- Cons: little pricey
