Photos of Dizzy, Ella and Duke Ellington adorn the walls at this popular nightspot, which draws families and tourists by day, and heats up with a young, single crowd at night. The menu is a mix of Tennessee-style hickory-smoked barbecue and Cajun specialties. Popular picks include jambalaya, gumbo and the "brownie sandwich"--a giant pile of shredded beef and pork, all soaked in a spicy barbecue sauce.

Thank you Joe's Be Bop staff for making my first experience at your establishment a pleasant one. From the moment I walked in the hostesses were so friendly and seemed very sincere. We sat in the bar section and our bartender was very nice. He made conversation with us on top of giving excellent service. The bus guys were right there taking away our plates when we were finished. We ordered the yardbird (dumb name, but ordered it anyway) along with the ribs. Great choice!! A little bumbed when the jazz band didn't feel like coming to work on the day I was there, so hopefully they found someone more dependable. Highly recommend Joe's Be Bop Cafe

I am from Louisiana and have been trying to find a good cajun restaurant in Chicago for a year and a half. A friend of mine from Louisiana recommended this place. The crawfish etouffee was good. It was the best I have had in Chicago. Not better than Mike Anderson?s or Picadilly?s in Louisiana, but still pretty good. I had their gumbo, too, and it was just okay. They served it with jamalaya rice, which looked funny, but was okay. They didn?t server enough sausage or shrimp with it, and I don?t like that they serve it with cornbread instead of crackers. It was spicy but no real flavor. I don?t think the sausage was andoille, either. I would go back for the crawfish etouffee again.

I, along with my family, had a superb time at this restaurant. I wasn't sure if it was a place for kids but it is. The musicians are jamming all night (they walk around and perform throughout the restaurant), the drinks are good, the food is good................A++
