Don't go to Bubba Gumps Navy Pier.
Don't support or waste your money here. Company doen't stand behind the patron. Our issues on our visit:
3 of 4 of us became ill after eating there. Wait staff misplaced my c.card which was given for payment, did not have a view of the lake as told, and more. After many calls to reach management, who failed to follow up with us - I had to make all the calls and even contacted Cal. office to see if we could come to an agreement.because I felt a portion of the bill should have been credited. I found them less then supportive or understanding about the important night that they ruinded. They were a take the money and run spot. I won't be supporting them ever again - they don't care I won't invest.
Good Times at Bubba's. Every time we have eaten at Bubba's it has been great food and service. Keep up the good work.
Food cooked in old grease. I loved this place, but for some reason, the last few years haven't been so good here. Why? Because the fried food, especially the shrimp, taste like it was cooked in old cooking oil. I couldn't figure it out at first. Then it dawned on me...there are not cooking the shrimp in fresh oil. I sent my order back, only to get the same results. Please, please use fresh oil!
OK, but. My grandchildren wanted to go to Bubba Gump's at Navy Pier in Chicago. A bit pricy for ordinary or less than ordinary food. The Cobb salad at $ 10.99 was mostly spinach, lettuce, some cut-up chicken, a little avocado and little else. These days you can throw anything together and call it Cobb. The hamburger sandwich looked good . Clam chowder ok. Waiter brought the wrong salad first. Took 10 minutes to get the Cobb afterwards. Understandable in such a busy place. This is a place for kds.
"It looks like a place you'd see in a movie!". My aunt and uncle were visiting from India and my Mom was visiting from NJ. I was showing them Chicago and the Navy Pier and we went here as a secondary choice - but, am I glad we did! It was a success! My uncle loved it! In particular, he loved the ambiance - he said "It looks like a place you'd see in a movie!" They loved the shrimp entree's. I ordered a 1 1/2 lb bucket of steamed peel & eat shrimp with Cajun spice, and it was excellent. The steaming partially splits the shrimp, making it even easier to take the shell off. You can order a 3/4 lb bucket, but I recommend getting the larger size - even if you can't finish it, the Cajun shrimp tastes great cold a couple days later. Service was excellent. Waiter was outgoing and pleasant, and his manner suited the environment perfectly. Also, we went for dinner at around 8:00 PM on a weekday and there was no wait (but it was still a happening place!)
Needs better service !!. Recently met some friends at Bubba Gumps. My wife and I weren?t real hungry so we ordered a popcorn shrimp appetizer and a dessert. After waiting over 30 minutes the dessert arrived first but our waiter seemed lost in confusion because he asked us if our shrimp had arrived yet (you think he would know!) He made no apologies but mumbled something about ?checking on it?. After another 20 minutes we finally had to leave, so I went to the cash register and had the shrimp removed from the bill. They seemed more concerned as to whether I wanted something removed from the bill that had been delivered to the table. I explained to the person at the register that it had never shown up nor did I expect it to (AGAIN NO APOLOGIES WERE OFFERED!). On top of all of this they mandatory charge a 15% gratuity, so my question is, where?s the motivation for the server to excel at his job?? Very unhappy indeed!
Fast friendly service.
I asked my boyfriend to take me here for my birthday during a long weekend trip to Chicago. He had never been so I wanted to take him to Navy Pier anyway and the prices here seemed a little more reasonable than many other downtown seafood place. The food was good, not knock your socks off spectacular or anything, but definitely what I would expect from a chain restaurant in a tourist destination like Navy Pier. I was very impressed with how quickly our orders were taken and brought to the table and all of the staff was incredibly friendly. What a great place for a birthday celebration!
WARNING: you will be quizzed with Forrest Gump trivia, so be prepared :-)
Nice hang out spot. I think that this restaurant is a "must try," especially if you're a fan of the movie Forrest Gump!!! The food, drinks and the pics were great! There is one dish where the food comes in a little bucket type of dish....the seafood is good! Try it!
"Forrest Gump" theme restaurant serves up shrimp and movie memorabilia to families at Navy Pier..
In Short
"Forrest Gump" script pages, costumes and still photos fill this tourist favorite, whose menu items get cutesy names like Gumpberry Cobbler. Regardless of what you order (popcorn shrimp, garlic shrimp, nacho dip, key lime pie), expect it to be done in true Southern style, with full-on garlic, sugar or butter. Highlights include enormous Alaskan king crab legs and the Shrimp Net Catch: a bounteous serving of crustaceans steamed in beer with garlic or Cajun spice.
Got shrimp?. I've lived in Chicago for years, and everytime I have friends or relatives visit we eat at Bubba Gump. The food is delicious, the portions are plenty, the drinks are tasty, and I don't think I've ever had so much fun at a restaurant. Their waitstaff is the best in the city -- where do they find such wonderful people?! Their gift shop has the neatest stuff too, like "Run Forrest Run" license plates! They even have a Forrest Gump impersonator from time to time who is just wonderful. If you live in Chicago or you're just visiting, eat here -- you won't be disappointed! The only draw back is the wait, but trust me, it is SO worth it! Remember if there's a 2 hour wait that there's probably a good reason for it! The best place to eat on Navy Pier -- heck, the best in Chicago!
