TOTALLY AGREE WITH BAD ATTITUDE BUT I ADD GRIMY TAPAN TABLES

by gourmandese at Citysearch

Same complaint about the odd and overly rich egg sauce.

But the big disappointment was the greasy, grimy tapan tables themselves. This was about the time of kosta72's visit in 2008. There was thick, black grease hardened and apparently there for a long time all over the edges of the cooking surface. When I brought this to the attention of the manager he became shockingly rude and defensive. He could have cared less. Benihana never allowed their tables to get into this state of uncleanliness. Needles to say we will never go back.

  • Pros: Slightly more intimate than most hibachi places
  • Cons: Rude Service, Grimy, greasy hibachi tables. Yucch!!!

Authentic japanese cuisine

by nickprochnow at Citysearch

First off the service is wonderful. If you want a table show go to another hibachi style place. If you want an intimite setting where the food comes first, try Ron of Japan. I don't eat the egg sauce, to be honest I don't like eggs at all, but the shell fish is amazing without it. The main staff may come off like they don't care but the owners, and the all the cooks and staff, hardly speak english. If you leave anything less than a 15% tip, they want to know what was wrong. Like the cheap people who leave 40 dollars on a 250 dollar bill, they only want to know how to make the service better, not for anymore tips. I can't tell you enough how wonderful the place was, I'm from Kansas City and I've neve been to a authentic japanese restauant, I hope they open others outside of Chicago. In the midwest there is nothing better. If you make a wish along the bridge leading to your table it feels great. Enjoy, I have for the first time but I'm certain not the last.

  • Pros: The wonderful food. On a slow day, great service. On a sat/sun, timely service.
