Editorial Review for Water Tower Place – by Elisa Kronish
In Short
The eight-level Water Tower Place prompted a retail boom along North Michigan Avenue when it was built in 1976. Named for the historic Water Tower across the street--a rare survivor of the Great Chicago Fire--this 74-story building also houses the Ritz Carlton Hotel, restaurants, office space and residences. Department stores Marshall Field's and Lord and Taylor anchor this vertical mall's more than 100 specialty stores.

The Water Tower Place is a great mall for shopping. It is located on Chicago's Magnificent Mile. Over 100 stores and restaurants are located inside. Stores range from rather cheaper ones to pricier ones. There are elevators and escalators inside, which ever you prefer. Dining is downstairs. You are given a card when you enter which you use to get your food from whatever restaurant you prefer. You choose where you sit. On your way out, your card is turned in and that is when you pay. The Water Tower Place is clean and there are ATMs. Visit their website for more information.

The Water Tower Place is one of the best malls in America. The 8 levels of stores run from the silly to the boutiquey. The major department store is Macy's, which is itself a gem. Downstairs is Foodlife, which provides options for any taste. The glass elevators and central atrium make for some great people watching and easy to scan self-help directing (no map needed). Basically, I enjoy shopping here, and I'm not a big fan of crowded mall style shopping.
