Editorial Review for Face & Facial Co., Ltd. – by Elisa Kronish

The Scene
On the second and third floors above stylish Oak Street boutiques, this salon could easily be missed. Despite Gold Coast digs and big-name fans, Face & Facial isn't nearly as ornate or plush as other high-profile spas in town: This unpretentious atmosphere translates into friendly, sincere service by experienced professionals.

The Services
Hollywood stars favor this spa when in Chicago, and celebrity photographer Victor Skrebneski sends all his models to Face & Facial owner Mila Bravi before his shoots. It's no wonder that Bravi has won several beauty industry awards. Besides signature facial services, the salon offers other luxuries, like enzyme peels and paraffin treatments for head, torso and extremities, and the popular body facial: Skin is cleaned with an electric body buffer, massaged with exfoliating cream and rubbed with a light moisturizer.

The Details
Massage, body treatments, facials, hair removal, sunless tanning, manicure/pedicure, makeup application.

Insider Tips

Save Money

At little more than a dollar a minute ($65 women, $69 men), the hour massage here is one of the best spa deals in Chicago.

The Extras

Unlike many spas, this one allows teen clients, and even has an introductory package for them, including a facial and brow-shaping. Great gift idea for little sis, cousin or niece.

Brands

Face & Facial offers their own exclusive line of skin care products called Milbra. To maintain that after-treatment feeling, pick some up after you're appointment.

The facial I got was superb -- really took the redness and inflammation out of my problem skin. It was truly one of the best ones I have had. I also had my eyebrows waxed with great results. I even got some compliments on my brow shape afterwards. On the downside, Mila was very pushy with her product line. I bought a product (not from Mila Bravi's personal line), and I am very pleased with the quality. However, the price was way too high -- I later found out that the same product as the one I bought for $98 retails for $54 on many online sites. The markup was nearly 100%! I don't plan to go back regularly because of the poor customer service.

Pros: brow shaping, facial, location

Cons: parking, ambiance

I got a facial with Mila, a pedicure and manicure. The pedi was complimentary for 1st time customers. The manicure was just okay, because she did it during part of the facial. But the facial was fantastic. My face looked and felt just wonderful! I bought the scrub and mask to use at home because I liked them so much.

Pros: Excellent facial, clear skin, free pedicure!

Cons: Pricey, but worth it.

Editor's Review

Known for its raves from Goldie Hawn and photographer Victor Skrebneski, this salon is surprisingly low-key.  See the full editorial review.
