Jeremy has been cutting my hair for about six years now. He is awesome! I travel a lot and have been in a pinch a couple of times where I needed to get a cut overseas (ala a happy Vietnamese male with chipped clippers in one hand and the cord and a smile in the other) and came back with a head that by all rights should have been shaved only to have Jeremy calm me down and fix the mess.
He has mad skills and is passionate about what he does. I gave Jeremy free run of the mill on my hair and I have been happy ever since.
He is memorialized in wedding pictures as I flew in from Europe to Chicago, just to get my haircut a week before my wedding. This guy knows hair!
Others that are good and come recommended: Gary and Pasquel (sp).
The one issue I have is price, it seems like they go up in price once or twice a year and they don’t have some sort of regular discount, a haircut every three weeks can get pricey. That said, f you want the best – come here!
Gary gets it !. I had an extraordinary experience at the Vidal Sassoon Water Tower Place salon. The service was 5 star from reception to the support staff to the shampoo person. My stylist, Gary, was very professional, better than on time, he took me 10 minutes early! This means alot to me as I try to accomplish as much as possible during a long lunch break. A counter person at Saks recommended Gary ( a senior stylist) to me after I complimented her on her beautiful haircut that she said takes no effort on her part to restyle. Gary's demeanor is professional and rather quiet, but I think he is probably more efficient as a result, because other clients around me, engaged in lively conversations with their stylists, were still not finished when I had checked out to leave, with a cut and style that was beyond my expectations. I will definitely go back to Gary , and highly recommend him if running on time and getting a great cut are of primary importance to you .
Avoid Jeremy, avoid this salon period. VS was acquired by Regis in 2002 and it shows.. It looks like a Regis because it is a Regis. Regis purchased Vidal Sassoon back in 2002. Just Google regis and vidal sassoon. An article in the NY TImes confirms it. I wished I knew that when I stepped in the salon for a splurge. I paid $95 for a haircut with Jeremy and I should have paid no more than $25. It is your typical mall salon with inflated prices. I walk in with a bad haircut and Jeremy just trim the bad haircut! When I complained and asked for a supervisor the Creative director said the only thing wrong was my hair without even looking or combing through the haircut. They were very condescending. NOT willing to fix mistakes. If you want a fabulous haircut go somewhere else. If you want an average haircut (better that what I got), go to Regis and use the difference you save to buy something else. If you want to risk it, please listen to me and AVOID JEREMY.
High Quality and haircuts that turn heads!!. If there is one thing i take care of, its my hair. I usually look for the top stylist in any salon but i was not afraid to take a lower level stylist who was well recommended by a friend who works at Vidal. Mio, in her early 20's is leagues away in her abilities and her creativity. As a fashion model i always like to stay above the curve and am always open to change. I usually like to sit down and every time a stylist works on my hair its different. I offer little suggestions, but let them do the work. If you tell a stylist you want to do something different and they say, "I can do anything you want" and you still have to describe exactly what you want, then that stylist should be working at a salon that charges less than 15 dollars for a haircut. I believe the best stylists should already know what looks good on you by understanding your personality. I never keep a style for long time. Mio is the type of stylist who fully understands hair and knows how to break boundaries while giving you a haircut worth the price you pay. The service at Vidal Sassoon is top notch from the point i come in, the shampoo, the refreshments and the haircut and style. I have read a lot of negative reviews about the salon. It boils down to your personality. If you want something boring and a haircut you have had for years..don't go there. If you want something modern, something that will look good on you and something different, then go to Vidal Sassoon.. Realize though, that the higher level stylists will have an opinion and a certain attitude about them, which comes with the territory, so start with a lower level stylist, if thats not your cup of tea. Mio would be a great starting point who has a great palate for perfection and really makes sure you look good 360 degrees. She's a lower level stylist by experience, but for a girl who has been a full-time stylist for less than 2 years, she can rival any top stylist in any other salon..
Wretched customer service.
I'm so unsatisfied. The first time, I listened to the colorist who informed me that she knew better b/c she was the professional and I was not, and I deferred to her "professional knowledge" and ended up with orange highlights. Ew.
Now, months later, I tried again. I called to make the appt and the stylist refused to listen to what I wanted over the phone and kept telling me to simply come in. This time, when three stylists all--at separate times--tried to talk me out of dark auburn streaks in my naturally platinum blonde hair by explaining that the red would simply not look good and I should go with a more natural copper...and again informed me that they had been to beauty school and that I had not and that I just did understand color. I refused the copper, given my prior experience, and they told me that it was either copper or nothing. I opted for nothing...what a waste of my time. If they'd just listened to me over the phone, they could have told me they wouldn't do this color....(but I'm certain they are told to get the customer into the salon) and I dragged myself over to the Aveda salon and was very happy with the results. They listened to my desires and gave them to me and respected my wishes as a customer.
VS is known for its student salon. Well, Aveda has a student salon, too.
Terrible customer service.
Went there 15 minutes early for my appointment. Had a seat in front of a dirty tea cup left by another client, which was still there 30 minutes later. They didn't offer me any tea, water, or anything - not even 22 minutes after my appointment was supposed to start, not even after I requested some water.
There was no drinking fountain that I could find, and the staff was not helpful at all. I'm sorry but the prices are way too high here for the customer service to be so bad.
Here's a suggestion: Hire staff who know how to provide good customer service.

To be fair, I've been going to VS for nearly 20 years and have had some very good cuts and color. Just in the last few years, however, I've noticed a decline in service, esp. with their reception staff, who can be aloof, bored, short on the phone, and just not manifesting interest in even loyal clients. It's always been uncomfortable: those chi-chi black and chrome chairs are killers to sit in, and you have to SIT sooooooo long, I always leave with a back ache. Last year I had to go back for two corrections after an idiot colorist make hash of my color, after not consulting me or my history card properly. I've had some colorists who scarcely even spoke to me during the color; my latest cutter, while dexterous and quick, still refused to listen to my complaints that he always angles the front so that it doesn't grow out properly on one side. Some colorists answer their friggin' cell phones while working on someone's hair! Shampooers aren't well trained, and they too are vacant, bored, and frequently too harsh with their hands. They seem young and inexperienced. Suddenly it dawned on me: why the heck and I still coming back to this establishment? It's been so long since I've been really pleased with the results, and the COST of the place has gone nothing by up, up, and up--- it's now nearly 300 bucks to get a full head of highlights from a top colorist, and a good cut.
So folks, hasta la vista. I'm willing to pay extra for great creativity in cuts and color, and superb service. But I'm just not paying for you to ride on your name and international reputation anymore. Maybe the management has changed, maybe you're just getting lazy---- but I'm GONE.
Mothers not welcome. Mothers are not welcome. I was turned away from Vidal Sassoon in Water Tower because I had my baby with me. I had my 2 month old in a front child carrier, my 2 year old at home with a babysitter and an appointment for a haircut. I arrived just on time after taking the train downtown. The receptionist?s face dropped when she saw my baby. She introduced me to the stylist and I sat down in the chair. I have curly hair and was told this would not be a problem; however, after discussing the cut and my hair briefly, the trainee stylist went to ask her instructor?s advice. I was then told that she could not give me a haircut while I had my baby on me. I offered that I could put the baby in a stroller. I was told that I had only two options: I could have my hair blow-dried and styled or I could leave; I could not have a haircut. My hair and my child were in questions and I did not understand the problem. I felt offended. My time was wasted. Mothers should make a point of not spending their money in this salon.
Jeremy is the Best!. I've been going to Jeremy for years now, and he truly is the best stylist I have ever, ever, had. I trust him completely with my hair, and tell him to do whatever he wants. In fact, though I moved to Texas last year, I wait to get my hair cut until I'm back in Chicago (I come back a few times a year for school) because I can't bear to let anyone else touch it anymore. He made me look gorgeous for my wedding day, and he's equally awesome with both my stick-straight *and* my husband's curly hair. If I had to pick one best thing about his cuts, it would be that they grow out so smoothly--no horrible awkward phase between cuts, just a loooong good period followed by a "yeah, I shoulda made an appointment a while back, heehee, guess I'll call today." Considering that I get fairly "arty" cuts from him (asymmetrical, etc) this is nothing short of a miracle. Ladies, I'm actually holding back here for fear you won't think this review is for real, but let me just finish with this: I am super-duper shy, have "body issues", etc, and I feel like a rockstar when I leave the salon. All I can say. As other reviewers have noted, a cut at this salon can take a big block of time, but it is so worth it. Their colorists are also excellent--Coco and Ginger are total sweeties and make your hair shine like it was always that color.
the best color and cuts in chicago. The staff is great! Colorists and stylists are very professional and their world renowned training really shows in their work.
