Editorial Review for Georgette Klinger – by Suzanne Carmel
The Scene
The convenient Chicago location of this chain is a quiet, dimly lit, no-frills spa specializing in facials. Service areas are divided between two floors, where six facialists, one massage therapist, one hair technician and two nail technicians work their magic. There are no lockers, music, beverages or robes (patrons change for massages in treatment rooms), but Georgette Klinger is a peaceful oasis.
The Services
Facials are the bulk of business. Those wishing to truly indulge should try the top-of-the-line virtual perfection facial, with an optional collagen mask for just a few dollars more. There are packages especially for teens and men, and a room where two technicians can do manicure/pedicure treatments for a couple or friends. The spa sells its own skin care line, the Vincent Longo make-up line and the Aromaphoria body line.

I've been going to Chicago's Georgette Klinger Spa for years. I interrupted my services after having moved away for a time. Now I'm back! My facialist was new to me as my former technician, Marcella (a favored, master at her practice) had retired in my absence. She was absolutely fantastic! While there I met a few women who have been coming to GK for 20+ years. Ladies, gentlemen, if you have an issue, address it with your practitioner immediately, if it continues, speak to a manager. You are paying -remember. They do want you to be pleased. I've not been pushed to purchase anything, but was asked if I might desire a product and only after we assessed my skins needs and current product usage. I have been treated respectfully and the treatments were relaxing and thorough. Not to mention they are knowledgeable about skin of color. I must say do try this establishment. I believe if they were at fault, certainly now, they've reached the mark for excellence.
Pros: All great.
Cons: None, thus far

I've had two facials here, and been underwhelmed both times. I only went back thinking that perhaps my aesthetician was at fault; but no, it's really the place. Very little extraction done, and very heavy on the thick goops, as if placing one product after another on the face was going to impress anyone. No massage involved of either the face or neck; my hair was really a mess afterwards. My acne was worst for about two weeks after the procedures. The aesthetician pushed their cheesy products at every turn. Service up front seemed bored, laissez faire; also the interior was disconcertingly void of people (where were all their clients??). They're supposed to be a very good salon and I chose them because of their location right in the Water Tower. But I won't return again.
Pros: parking easy; right in Water Tower
Cons: facials, spa service, products. Bleech.
