Editorial Review for Lakeshore Athletic Club - Downtown – by Colin Murphy
The Scene
Located in a nearly windowless monolith bridged to adjacent pedestrian areas, the club's Wabash location packs a lot into four-and-a-half floors. The atmosphere is spartan, and both equipment and clientele are a few years older than at nearby gyms, but physical fitness is the emphasis.
The Workout
More than 70 classes weekly include step, Spin and sculpt, Pilates, various types of yoga, aquatics and more. And though many of these are available elsewhere--maybe with greater variety and frequency, for less money--the strength of LSAC is in options for those not reliant on fitness trends. It's the rare gym these days that claims both racquetball and squash, along with three full-size tennis courts. A lap pool and suspended running track cater to the treadmill-phobic, while the requisite banks of bikes and steppers are still available, as are various strength machines and free weights.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoIf the rather steep membership fees scare you, multiply the value with the multi-club option, which gives you access to Lakeshore Athletic's three other locations (in Lincoln Park and around downtown) as well as to several exclusive supper clubs.
The ExtrasThe lunch counter and juice bar across from the front desk offers healthy snacks and quick meals for the hungry yet hurried.

The gym is well equiped, but the price is too high. I never climbed the wall, which costs extra anyway. The locker room is built so with no space to change. The area around the sauna and hot tub is always wet. And the staff is just rude. Really only went there because its across the street from work but when I took another job I joined another gym, for much less and got much more.
Pros: Location
Cons: rude staff, high price

Love the wide variety of classes- and the instructors are usually really good. This place also has a great lap pool and raquetball courts- which are often hard to come by. The weight room is not a meat market and the individual TVs on each machine make your work-out pass quickly. The food and juice bar serve pretty high quality meals. Locker rooms are very nice. Front Desk Staff could stand to be a little bit more friendly and helpful.
