Harlan J Berk, despite being a reputable coin company, lacks the friendly nature that some coin stores have. They don't treat people individually, There are many great alternatives in the chicago area.

Very reputable. I do not normally write reviews but I felt the need to write this when I saw how bad the reviews for this store were. Honestly, these people have been in business since the 70's and are near city hall. If anything shady were going on there they would have been shut down a long time ago. The staff seem a little young but they are knowledgeable. I have been in a few times recently with gold coins and they treated me well. They generally seem no-nonsense, clear and private which is fine because when making a transaction with high value, I don't want a lot of chit-chat. Their prices are pretty good on both the buy and the sell side or at least as good as some other places in the city. My only suggestion for this store would be to put a buzzard at the door because twice while I was in the store some unsavory and loud people came in which made me feel a little uncomfortable. I know you have to serve the public but I think putting a buzzard or something on the door may make people realize that they are in a professional establishment and they should alter their demeanor.

Not a good coin shop. There are much better places to conduct business. Try Subak or Chicago Coin. Even Gold Dust Coins is much better.

Not recommended. I went into this store to sell some gold coins. I had some Krugerrand coins to sell. You guys treated me horribly. You acted as if I was stupid, however, I have been saving these my whole life, and just need some extra cash because business is slow. You guys are thieves. Treat the public with more respect. Highly NOT RECOMMENDED.
