In Short – This easily overlooked windowed storefront reveals a dimly lit, modest dining room. Wood paneling, lace curtains, hanging pots and faded paintings add equal parts old-world style and charming kitsch, as does the mix of show tunes and dated pop. A straightforward menu opens with hearty soups, and heartier appetizers like plum, ricotta or potato-cheddar pierogis. Hefty entrees include rich chicken Gruyere served over brown rice, and brisket of beef with horseradish sauce.

What a surprise!

After walking around Lakeview looking for a place to eat, we came to Genesee Depot. It's easy to miss, and my partner didn't believe there was a restaurant there. It's a good thing I was persistant, otherwise we would have missed out on the best prime rib in town. Sure the menu is limited. And yes, the decor isn't all that exciting. But the food is excellent and the service is outstanding. Add on the fact that there's no cork fee, and you've got yourself a great night out.

Don't walk on by

How easy it is to walk by this Lake View establishment and not go in. For three years I was guilty, but no more. Good, unobtrusive service and meals like your Mom made at her best. Except your Mom didn't use capers or dried cherries. Ignore the decor and treat yourself to simple, good cooking. BYOB!

Pleasant Depot Surprise

This is great place to dine! The atmosphere is above casual but below formal and very charming. The menu offers great items but the Prime Rib steals the show -always tender and at a great price, you can't go wrong with this. Plus bringing my own bottle of wine and no corkage fee adds up to the best value in the area. The staff is great and our waitress, who happened to serve us 3 consecutive times, is extremely hospitable and funny. Charming dining experience and a spot I frequent monthly now.
