In Short – Professors, locals with kids, and laptop-toting students fill small cafe tables at this Hyde Park counter bakery, a convenient pit stop for a quick bite on campus. Almond croissants, blueberry tarts, vanilla madeleines and peanut butter cookies are among the sweets on offer. At lunch, there's a small menu of grilled panini, quiche and croque monsieurs. To drink, there's tea and soda, plus all manner of coffee beverages, including lattes, cappuccino and more.

Best "goodies" in the neighborhood

BonJour has DELICIOUS bakery goods, including croissants, and their mouthwatering tarts-those lemon tarts are to die for! Their sandwiches are wonderful also, particularly the panini's. They are in a location which attracts people driving and walking by, and in the summertime, you can spend minutes to hours at the outdoor tables. Also, not seen anywhere else in the neighborhood is the water and nibbles for dogs! It is a great meeting place.

Incredible Pastries

This is an excellent bakery hidden inside a small cafe. It really shines when it comes to pastries and cookies. The treatment of flavors and textures is masterful. I love their plain croissants; they realize that perfect balance of rich buttery flavor and light flakiness. The scones are also excellent, in sunny fruit flavors with a startling contrast of moisture and crispness. The made-to-order sandwiches are wonderful. The coffee and espresso are good and there is a variety of teas and cold beverages available. There are a couple of problems with this place: the seating is scarce, especially in winter, and although the staff is friendly and attentive, they are often too busy to do a really good job. Overall, the Bonjour Cafe Bakery is a staple for people in the know in Hyde Park and has some of the best pastries in Chicago.
