I've been to this church several times, and I love it because I never know what to expect. The last time I attended, they had the local Presbyterian and Episcopal ministers joining in their service. They had gospel music, as well as some cool South African and Jamaican stuff, and traditional church music as well. The crowd is everyone from young families to older folks, with lots of professionals so it's a good mix. Definitely not the preachy, intolerant, uptight bunch that you find in so many "Christian" churches.
Great, open-minded church

After moving into the neighborhood, I started going to Wicker Park Lutheran Church about 5 years ago. I found a small, but friendly, excited and very accepting group of people. The diverse congregation includes Caucasion, African, Hispanic, gay, straight, young and older people. There is no stuffiness - have gone out for martinis and road-trips with some of the members. Thee is huge interest in the currounding neighborhoods and social issues. The building has undergone extensive reconstruction, but still has some areas needing improvement. Were it not for this church's unique and inviting character, I probably would not be attending anywhere.
- Pros: Great people, Open-minded, Social issues focus
- Cons: Parking - not too bad, Still needs some work
Beautiful Church, Open and Warm Congregation

Wicker Park is a beautiful church in the historic district of Wicker Park. It is in the midst of renovation, but still very beautiful. You'll find Wicker Parkers of every age, gender and race here. It's a wonderful place to meet other people in the community and get involved in making the community a better place for everyone. The service (10:30 on Sunday) is traditional, but incorporates the most artististic aspects of traditional services with beautiful music, period instruments, gongs, banners. Sermons are thought provoking and relevant to today. Lutherans are very open to spiritual seekers, so no matter where you're at on your spiritual journey, you're welcome here.
