Consignors beware!
by SoooLucky at Citysearch
PROS: Beautiful layout; clean, well-organized, not stuffed to the rafters; unbelievable bargains to be had!
CONS: Consignors beware! If you do not promptly make arrangements to pick up any unsold items after the 60-day consignment period, your items will disappear without a trace, without proof of donation to a charity and without a receipt for the chairity to which it was supposedly donated.
I have tens of thousands of dollars worth of gorgeous fall clothing to be consigned (Chanel, Akris, YSL, Hermes) and this time they are going to another consignment shop.

MOST UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF- THREATENED TO "KICK MY A**"
by Leslie Chicago at Citysearch
I brought some stuff in to sell - Kona, was so rude to begin with. Thinks she knows everything!! So I brought in Dolce & Gabbana and St. Johns and other high end labels and she acted like I was doing her a favor. I thought consignment was 3 months so 3 months after the date I called to see when I can collect the stuff that didnt sell.
Turns out they donate stuff after 2 months - but beware if you consign with them - no one lets you know! So they just donated all my stuff somewhere without a word. So I said to her, dont you think that you should let people know before you donate their stuff? And her professional response, like always - is "We have over 2,000 consigners here, do you think I have time to call everyone - NO!"
So I say ok you dont have to be so b*tchy about it. And hung up.
SHE CALLS ME BACK AT WORK AND SAYS "IF YOU EVER F*CKING CALL ME AGAIN I WILL COME TO WHERE YOU ARE AND BEAT YOUR F*CKING A**!!
So classy. So sophisticated. Do not walk in there! Never in my life have I delt with someone so unprofessional and rude! She threatened me! Im a paying customer and client and she threatened to kick my a**!
There are plenty of other great consignment stores in Chicago. Bring your business where its wanted and appreciated. And where you arent treated this way. Other reviews agree - check out yelp!
A High Fashion Bargain Shoppers Dream!
by Melonie56 at Citysearch
A must-visit if you appreciate high fashion at bargain prices. I'm an avid consignment shopper (and consignor!) and have been to my fair share of shops from Arizona, to NY to Milwaukee, and of course...Chicago. This is absolutely one of my favorites.
Browse the many racks of dresses, outerwear, skirts, denim, shoes and more...all of which are organized by color and size, making it very easy if you are on a hunt for something particular. The racks are just comfortably filled as well, unlike many other shops I've been to where the merchandise is so terribly crammed in it hardly entices you to make the effort to dig through the mess to uncover that one "find".
Kona has a magnificent eye for high fashion and really knows her stuff. Obviously inventory varies daily, but on any given day you'll find a great selection of Gucci, Prada, St. John, Yves St. Laurent, Stuart Weitzman, and more that have been very gently used. Items are priced fairly, not only for the buyer, but for the consignor as well. A win-win in this economy....
Consignment is also very simple.....bring your items in during their receiving hours and Kona will determine on the spot what they can take for sale and provide you with a consignment agreement (50/50 split). Then.....just sit back and wait for your check to come in the mail! If you so choose, you may pick up any unsold items by their pick up date, or opt to have the items donated. Could it be any easier?!
Normally I'd keep a diamond in the rough like this my own little secret, but this family owned and operated shop has a great story, wonderful people, and really cares about its business and the clientele that support it....so I think everyone should know about it!
So why are you still reading this?! Get on over there before someone else snags your new Gucci shoes!
Pennies on the dollar
by StarvingForStyle at Citysearch
Want to shop Oak Street and The Avenue but haven't yet made the big time? The trip north to Selections is totally worth it. This shop was owned by a sweet, sweet lady named Alexa who, sadly, passed on to fashion heaven last year. All who knew her miss her. She was smart to hire her replacement before she left us though, and what the friendly, professional, fashion spot-on Kona has done with Alexa's original idea has only served to improve the shopping experience there and increase the level of service and quality of the designer selections. I can routinely walk out of there with thousands of dollars of clothes for pennies on the dollar. Fantastic consignors make the trip (or send their beautiful things via messenger) so you and I can look absolutely fabulous, for up to 80-90% off retail. If you don't find anything to your liking the first trip out, it's worth it to give Selections another try.
- Pros: Selection, pricing, service
- Cons: LP location
Extremely Happy
by CarolBillie at Citysearch
I sold a few of my very expensive items at Selections. As soon as they sold, Selections called me to deliver the news and sent my check immediately. I'm also very impressed with their stock. I bought a Roland Mouret top that I just LOVE. I also bought a gorgeous Issey Miyake belt that is so unique, I get comments on it all the time. I also really appreciate the staff, they're knowledgeable on the inventory and point me in the right direction when I ask. Oh, and the Chanel jackets, wow. I'd highly recommend selling and buying there. The clothes are all in perfect condition and do not seem like they have been worn.
