The Scene – Adobo's ambience is warm; the crowd is loud, young and professional. The exposed-brick walls are accented by sun-drenched Southwestern colors, bright artwork and two beautiful vintage bars. Conveniently located adjacent to Piper's Alley, Adobo is ideal for dining before heading to Second City or an art flick. – – The Food – Hits on the regional Mexican menu include succulent and fiery grilled baby octopus, and delicate trout steamed in a corn husk. Moist, chicken breast holds its own in a dense, Oaxacan black mole with epazote-infused black beans. Fresh…

Editor's Tips

Where to Sit:
If you want to be part of the action (and noise), sit downstairs; for more privacy (and a totally smoke-free environment), request the second floor, which is open on weekends and for private parties.
The Extras:
The restaurant features more than 90 sipping tequilas divided among Blancos (white), Reposados (rested) and Anejos (aged); flights of three are available from $8.25 to $19 and come with a spicy tomato juice chaser.

  1. The service, food, and drinks were excellent.
  2. While the fresh Guac and margaritas are tasty, the novelty of our waiter shaking and pouring our drinks at our table, wore off rather quickly.

  1. You get a taste of some authentic Mexican flavors for a reasonable price.
  2. The food is very good, but nothing stood out a.
  3. As a plus they make it fresh right in front of you.
  4. The food and margaritas are above average but the tequila flights ane a good value and nice idea.
  5. The food is amazing as well as the margheritas.
  6. While the fresh Guac and margaritas are tasty, the novelty of our waiter shaking and pouring our drinks at our table, wore off rather quickly.
  7. Our meal started off on a high note, the famous tableside Guacamole is quite tasty, and the margaritas are very good, however the entrees leave much to be desired, especially since they are close to 20 dollars a plate.
  8. Desserts are quite tasty too if you have a sweet tooth.
  9. The service, food, and drinks were excellent.
  10. the food is always fabulous.
  11. Lots of attention to detail in sauces (fresh tomatillos in the verde sauce) and sides.
  12. I'm a huge avocado fan and I loved the fresh spicy guacamole that they made in front of me.
  13. Great guacamole, tasty margaritas, good food.
  14. The pork was very tender and the sauce was good.
  15. Typically we will just order a bunch of the app's and some spicy gucamole and skip the entrees.
  16. The servers were rude and unnecessarily rushed the early evening meal.
  17. The portion size is just right, and the restaurant has a unique take on typical Mexican food.
  18. The exception to that was the fresh made guacomole.
  19. My three-year-old daughter devoured her spaghetti with red sauce (unusual for her), and when I tasted, I found it was perfect (flavorful, not spicy, slightly sweet) for a small child.
  20. dishes are pretty good here-it is upscale and portions arent large but prices are high.

If you dine - don't forget a personal item

by Abudanza at Citysearch

It was a Sunday afternoon this summer. I shopped at a local boutique nearby, then with a friend strolled into Adobo Grill, as I had done on other occasions, to have a Margarita -- which is quite good.

However, this time I walked out and left my shopping bag with its contents at the side of my chair on the floor, just behind the reservations desk. The next morning, I called the restaurant, told the manager-of-the-morning about my package and its contents which she verified. She said the items would be in the manager' s office and would be given to me when I came in.

The following day, on arrival at Adobo Grill, the chief manager, had the bag brought to me with one item missing and another damaged. When the previous manager was called, she denied her confirmation of the contents -- now, "she could not recall what she had said to me."

The chief manager stated he could vouch for the honesty of all his staff and felt the present contents of the shopping bag was what was there originally. The manager was indifferent and made no effort to get to the truth or to satisfy me, the customer -- which now I am not longer!

Best Margarita in Chicago!

by BeagleFrenzy at Citysearch

I almost do not want to leave such a good review because then it will get too crowded - but seriosly this is the best margarita I've had in this city so far. We've only tried a few appetizers, but the service is always great and what we've had has been wonderful! We're going back for a full dinner real soon!

Nothing special and very expensive

by debbiem534 at Citysearch

We experienced a very expensive but lackluster dining experience Friday Jan. 18th at the Lombard Yorktown location. Very very expensive for the small portions. Taste was nothing special either. Better off almost any other restaurant. Will not return. All 4 of us were VERY dissapointed.

by kiki80 at Citysearch

Adobo is a great place to start off the night. Great guacamole, tasty margaritas, good food. It is a festive place that is a step (or two) above your typical mexican joint. The tequila flights amke for a fun evening as well-- be careful! Great place for groups.

  • Pros: guac, margaritas
  • Cons: loud, long waits

Fresh Guacamole

by iamhagel at Citysearch

I was told they have the best guacamole before I went, and I have to agree it is the best I have had. As a plus they make it fresh right in front of you. The tortilla soup was a little spicy but very good. Everyone else I was with enjoyed their meals. Good drink selection too. If you are planning on going to Second City for the night I suggest eating dinner here.

  • Pros: Guacamole
