What Our Expert Scouts Say

Geja's Cafe

There's a reason Geja's is considered one of Chicago's most romantic restaurants: it's underground, super dark, brimming over with wine and you have to dip your succulent food in chocolate and cheese.

The most romantic restaurant in Chicago. I've been on more great dates here than I can remember. Go for the ambiance, the wine list and the chocolate fondue.

Not that romantic. I'm not sure why this restaurant was said to be so romantic. The tables were close together, it was extremely loud, the food was decent but I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic evening.

Great dining experience. I took my girlfriend for a nice night out. It wasn't easy to find, thanks to missing road signs and my unfamiliarity with the area. However, the service and food MORE than made up for any agitation I felt prior to entering Geja's. The food portions were more than enough. The girlfriend was quite pleased with the wine list and we were able to find one I could drink as well. I do not like wine most of the time. I have been to other fondue places and enjoyed my meal, but nothing compares to Geja's.

Wonderful Experience. I came to Gejas for my wedding anniversary and I must say, it is THEE MOST romantic restaurant I have ever been too. It is truly an experience worth the cost. The menu is great! The service is spectacular! And oh the desserts are just divine! Even though it gets busy on the weekends, the waitstaff makes you feel like you are there only table. I would recommend making reservations and plan on spending at least $100. This is what you dream of when you desire a real romantic dining experience. I will definitely be coming back!

An amazing dining experience. My husband and I returned from our first visit to Geja's for our 2 year wedding anniverssary. I truly was amazed by the experience. The decor is extremely romantic with candles, curtained booths with a live guitarist that didn't overpower the room, but complimented it. My husband was afraid he was going to be hungry but after indulging ourselves in rich cheese with fruit, chicken and beef with what seemed like endless vegetables and sauces, and finishing with a delicious chocolate foundue where we got to roast marshmallows, he was stuffed! In addition our waiter was perfect as he only came to the table when we needed him, and the drink man was on top of it! They also knew it was our anniverssary and gave us complimentary champagne! The experience was perfect from beginning to end. Also, if you go during the week, it is not crowded at all!

Unique, romantic & overall OUTSTANDING!. My husband & I had dinner here May 2005 & we couldn't have been more pleased! We felt like we had walked into Marakesh or Morocco & since it was a Mon eve all bottle wines were 50% off.....BONUS!!!! The food was incredible, the service was fun, the ambience was romantic, the music was perfect...we will most definately make this restaurant a MUST whenever we visit Chicago!

This romantic fondue hideaway is the perfect place to pop the question.. The Scene
Geja's is like a catacomb for lovers. After descending the steps from Armitage Avenue, you enter a tightly packed labyrinth of dark, wooden walls, fluttering candles, whispering couples, live flamenco music and a staff that manages to glide gracefully through the dim space.

The Food
Fondue may sound corny, but it's fun (and delicious). Be prepared to be your own chef--and to be impressed with your efforts. Your fondue flavorfest includes creamy Gruyere fondue with bread and fruit; a light salad with tangy Dijon vinaigrette; and a heaping platter of top-quality beef, chicken and/or seafood for your skewering pleasure (with eight delightful dipping sauces). Dessert is a great capper to the evening: gooey Belgian chocolate fondue with fruit, pound cake and marshmallows.

perfect all around restaurant!. Perfect first time fondue restaurant for men, especially if they "don't do fondue" and are just looking to make the woman happy, 'giving in', if you will. They will not be disappointed by Geja's, and may even be exceptionally surprised! And as for the "thanks" they get after this date, it will be well worth their effort! Absolutely the best restaurant ANYWHERE!

Go ahead; you know you want to. I have to sigh for the good old days before the world discovered the unique and wonderful tastes of a dinner cooked and served to match your mood to perfection...because you cook it yourself.

Feed your lover tantalizing tidbits of your favorite bits in your own blend of sauces, or give in to a traditional kiss if you "accidentally" drop a piece in the sauce. I could wish the prices were a little lower, but the llights are low.

Most Romantic Night. Our night at Geja's was one of the most romantic and fun dates ever--the food was wonderful and fun to cook, the candlelight was magical, and the music was subtle and romantic.

Enjoyable Eateries. If you are hungry, skip this place. Especially bringing a man with an appetite. Cost wise you do not get enough meal for your money avg $150/two you do go home hungry.

Ambiance is superb.
