“The chai is horrible but the food is good.”
“The wait staff has never been blatantly rude, but they often give the impression that you are doing them a favor by dining there.”
“If you get lucky and catch them in a good mood it is definetly worth a try once, but when you order take-out don't bother you have to talk to one of the rudest men usually.”
not even a little smile?. i agree with the other posts about the service. the food is the best indian food i have had in chicago, but the service is ridiculous, they do act like it is an insult to them that you are there. some of the newer staff is nice, but the "guy at the door" just glares. i have taken to eating at indian grill instead, just because they food there is almost as good, but the staff is nice. the ambiance at raj is also really nice though...
Never Going Back. The food is good but not so good that I would ever give them the right to treat me like I am a problem. The service was HORRIBLE. Which is amazing because I have met the owner once and he is VERY nice. I have no idea how the employees could be so rude and bad. Especially the two old men. The chai is horrible but the food is good. If you get lucky and catch them in a good mood it is definetly worth a try once, but when you order take-out don't bother you have to talk to one of the rudest men usually. My company has thousands of people who come in from out of town and I make sure they stay clear from this place. I want them to know I care about their enjoyment of Chicago, so I always set up meetings at the places that care about their service.
Prefer to eat at home. Raj Darbar has some of the best traditional Indian food in the city. The food is always wonderfully seasoned and consistent with each visit. The chef does a great job of tailoring the "heat" of each dish so that it isn't overpowering. They also have several dishes on the menu that are hard to find at other Indian restaurants. However, I have always found the service a bit disconnected. The wait staff has never been blatantly rude, but they often give the impression that you are doing them a favor by dining there. The atmosphere is quiet, but the benches and chairs are hard and uncomfortable to sit in for the duration of a meal. I prefer to order for carry-out.
Rude Service. I attempted to place a delivery order over the phone, but the order taker was immediately impatient and blatantly rude. So I hung up the phone and called the Indian Grill on Clark, who delivered friendly service and delicious simosas and saag paneer. If I'm such a disruption to the employee at Raj Darbar, I'll do him a favor and stay out of his hair from now on.
Great Food. I went with my friend, who is Indian, and another friend. The other friend and myself had never tried Indian food, and it was delicious! I highly recommend this resturant!
elegant and tasty. Raj Darbar offers an excellent selection of Indian dishes, some of which you will not find at other Indian restaurants. The setting is attractive and intimate and service is prompt and cordial. Delivery service is also very good.
