Bring back the mashed potatoes. The best item on the lunch menu was the fresh-made mashed potatoes, but it was discontinued during the summer of 2008. The pancakes and sloppy joe are pretty good. I am pretty sure that the hamburger patties are store bought, not hand-made.
Good Omelets.
Great for breakfast. Good omelets, especially the Clark Street Omelet. Quick and cheap and perfect to nurse a hangover. Sometimes on the weekends there are too many ill-behaved kids screaming and throwing stuff.
Also wish they had a cappacino machine instead of just regular coffee.
DePaul-neighborhood diner serves up reliable, greasy fare to loyal patrons of all ages..
In Short
This modern take on the roadside diner is replete with jukebox and memorabilia posters. A mix of local workers, seniors and college kids come for hearty food cooked on a grill behind the counter. Burgers are a great, greasy hangover cure, and the simultaneously crisp-and-soft grilled cheese is a specialty. Breakfast features a scrambled egg-and-pepper sandwich on a grilled roll. Chocolate milk with drips of unmixed Hershey's syrup will remind you of childhood.
yummy tatertots!. Salt and Pepper Diner attracts a nice group of hip kids and Lakeview residents. They get big points for serving sloppy Joes, tatertots, and pitchers of Rolling Rock.
