RUDE, RUDE, RUDE. Honestly I used to enjoy Toast (even with the LONG waits), but I would NEVER go there again. It is true the food is decent, but you can get decent eggs, pancakes, or french toast all over the city of Chicago, but what you won't find anywhere else is such a RUDE, condescening, and unprofessional manager. The owner of this establishment should be ashamed of himself for having a woman like this represent his business. I always try to bring out of town guests to this restaurant for brunch as it has been one of my favorites and close to my home, but I have never been treated the way I have at a restaurant in this city as I was this weekend. I actually pitty the host who reports to this woman who even treats him with no respect.

Save yourself time and patience and don't even bother stopping at Toast. Head to Nookies around the corner, or Orange, HB, The Original Pancake House, or even Uncommon Ground all of which are great for breakfast and treat every customer with respect!

The nasty and rude hostess/owner has to go!!. The food is good however not worth what you have to go through to get a seat in this overly sat, upitty cramped joint. If you are looking to enjoy yourself at breakfast...DO NOT GO TO TOAST. You will wait forever to get a tiny table and you will for sure get a lot of attitude from the overly tanned HOSTESS just to be rushed to order by the wait staff and inhale your food so they can turn the table.

Rude, rude and a little more rude!!!!!. So maybe this place has some good home fries, but they certainly aren't worth the rude attitude and the uneasiness you feel in this restaurant. Whoever, the hostess is (she can't be the owner b/c an owner wouldn't be dumb enough to treat their customers so poorly) should be fired!! My husband and I went there with our baby and were told in NOT a nice tone..."to leave our carriage on the street". We have a rather expensive stroller and didn't think it was a reasonable request, so we went somewhere else. Then I went to breakfast with my girlfriend there a few days later. Within 5 minutes of sitting down our waitress asked us 6 times if we were ready to order. Then when they saw we were chatting and drinking our coffee after our meal, they started clearing our table and the water glass I was drinking from as well. I had to ask for the water back. Then the nasty hostess seated a party of 3 next to us and in a loud voice apologized for them not have more room!? My friend finally suggested that we leave because she felt so uncomfortable. I told her we needed to fine a new breakfast spot. There should be a sign on the door "No Children Allowed & 30 Minute Time Limit".

Unsanitary practices abound!!!. I used to love the food at this place, but on my most recent visit to the Lincoln Park location I saw something that turned my stomach.

I was sitting at a table near the line and watched as the busboys (more than 1) poured water from half-drunk drinking glasses into a water pitcher on the counter as they cleared dishes. Then, I watched as they took that exact same pitcher half full of backwash water and came to my table (and others) and filled our water glasses. It was disturbing. I will never be back. If they're doing that in the dining room, what are they doing in the kitchen where customers CAN'T see?????

horriblehost. Very horrible place. They made us wait for 35 mins and then moved people who came after us before. And the worst part is we were holding a baby. We left that place without eating and went to a great tapas place. I would not go to this place if your color is any different from white plus with kids...b/c we don't want our kids to see this kind of human nature.

Always A Delight!. I just went back to my favorite brunch place;Toast on Webster St. I love to indulge so I had the pancake smothered slam, and of course I couldn't finish it My partner had the Pumpkin Pie Pancakes, and I ate most of his instead of finishing mine. We ate at the bar which is my favorite place to sit. I love talking to Jill behind the counter. She's stylish, sweet and worth the wait. That sums up the entire environment there. It's like coming over to your friend's house for brunch with great food always waiting for you. I wish I could cook like that, but until I learn I am coming back to Toast! Great service, great food, relaxing atmosphere, and a hip feel.

THE BEST IN THE CITY. I have to say, I have been to many restaurants around the country and Chicago for breakfast and TOAST is at the top. The eggs benedict, stuffed french toast and the breafast burrito were all superb. WIsh the potatoes we ordered had a little more flavor and more done but still were good. The music combined with the great service added to the experiece after a late night the evening before. We loved it so much we asked for the manager (Jill) and she treated us like we were long lost friends. Will definately go back everytime we can. Be prepared for a long wait but well worth it!!!

Rudest Manager EVER!!!. I honestly do not know how anyone in a hospitality establisment be so rude. We went there for a late lunch on sunday and were told that there would be an hour and a half wait even though there weren't too many people waiting. We waited patiently in a corner where we had been usherd into like we were cattle, by the rude manager Jill.

We were finally seated after 45 mins. But then they refused to put a high chair next to our table for the baby we had with us. Apparently there wasn't enough room next to our table. I agree the place is tiny but then why was there a line of high chairs at the bar trying to barricade the people waiting from getting to the empty bar.

The food was ok. Nothing great. Could'nt substitute anything or change anything and the Bloody Mary's were totally watered down. Extremely pretentious!

Finally when we were leaving I mentioned Jill's rudeness to the guy who had seated us. He went and informed her that I'd complained and she burst out into a huge laugh look at us. I have a hospitality background and that is just not the way to behave.

If i'd known this would be the case we'd have gone to Nookies too which is close to Toast and way better!!!

Really disappointing.

Lost the attitude. The food is good, but not worth the attitude you get from the staff. Be prepared to be treated like you owe something to be there - food isn't nearly that good to be treated like that.

The top 3 breakfast places in Chicago!. This place was awesome for a relaxed weekend breakfast. They had a great gourmet selection of variations on typical breakfast food. The portions were good sized and the ingrediants were fresh and tasty. The prices were pretty fair as well. This is one of my favorite 3 breakfast places in Chicago for fresh, hip breakfast food.
