What People Are Saying About Pequod's Pizzeria

In Short – Named for the ill-fated ship in "Moby Dick," Pequod's is a mix of no-nonsense servers, neighborhood families and college couples. Hundreds of photos and graffiti cover walls, with a smattering of local sports memorabilia. The menu offers Italian standards and starters like mozzarella sticks, zucchini sticks, jalapeno poppers and stuffed mushrooms. But it's the pizza, with signature caramelized cheese, sweet, flavorful sauce and generous toppings, that brings in the customers.

Editor's Tips

The Extras:
Half orders of toppings are available.
Save Money:
A seven-inch pan pizza with cheese and one ingredient and soda or select draft beer for about $5 (11am-3pm, weekdays).

  1. their service is good and fast, its a chill spot for sure except weekends it gets so crowded that you may want to get here early or make reservations and by the way parking is pretty bad,but other than that i highly recommended.
  2. The no frills and uniquely decorated space make the dining experience both comfortable and affordable.
  3. The staff is really nice we got seated right away its kind of a bar atmosphere good rockin music (hard rock and some punk) Nice big screen T.V. for watching the CUBS.
  4. (Note: a thick pizza will take about 45 minutes--soooo worth the wait) I get delivery from and dine-in at the city location and have never had a bad experience.
  5. Just a good old fashion grunge place with lots of atmosphere & great people.
  6. nice little neighborhood spot that was quite cozy.
  7. take all my out of town visitors here not only because it is great food, but it is a relaxed atmosphere and it is in a great location.

  1. The sauce was nothing speacial, the cheese was virtually tasteless, and the sausage was so bland I thought it could have been unseasoned hamburger.
  2. If you're in the mood for good pizza, I suggest getting it delivered.
  3. I've lived in Chicago for 6 years and I've had pizza at basically ever other "Best Of" in the city and Pequods is by far my favorite.
  4. This is good pizza, I always order it delivered.
  5. Beer & wine & a great "Pequod's" salad to start.
  6. The best blend of crust, cheese, and sauce.
  7. enjoy the pan pizza much more than the stuffed "Chicago style" crust.
  8. Deep dish is excellent.
  9. Some of the best pizza in Chicago
  10. The price is great cause I never walk away hungry (a small pizza is perfect for 2) This place gets my vote!
  11. Pequod's is great - pizza is the best (particularly the sausage), bartenders are great - if only our server had been the least bit friendly it would've been a perfect low-key evening.
  12. One of the best pizzas in Chicago.
  13. bar/pizzeria. The deep dish is EXCELLENT and has a very strong reputation.
  14. take all my out of town visitors here not only because it is great food, but it is a relaxed atmosphere and it is in a great location.

  16. My favorite pizza
  17. Outstanding pan style pizza!
  18. While Peaquod's does have great thin crust pizza, the reason to go there is for their pan pizza with carmalized crust.
  19. Peaquod's pizza is about as fresh as you can get.
  20. She knew I was a pizza fanatic and told me of this great pizza that I had to try.
  21. Great crust, sauce and simply the best sausage.
  22. The pan pizza is absolutely my favorite-topped liberally with toppings and with a great crust.

  26. know how to make my own pizza but I think that Pequod's makes the best pizza in Chicago.
  27. If you want truly awesome pizza with a totally distinct but awesome flavor, Peaquods is for you!
  28. Pequod's isn't anything fancy - actually, it's a bit "rundown" but that doesn't matter when you're going for great pizza.
  29. would highly recommend this to any fan of Chicago deep dish, and would chose it over the "famous" deep dish places any day of the week!
  30. The crust is unique and tasty the sauce is perfect, not too spicy or bland.
  31. Deep dish is delicious, with burnt carmalized onion crust & the best sausage I've had on a pizza in years.
  32. Visiting Chicago and wanted the BEST Chicago-style pizza in town.
  33. NOT the best Chicago pizza.
  34. The thick pizza is the best I have ever had, and I was born and raised in Chicago.
  35. don't get me wrong it's still good when delivered but to enjoy this Pizza to it's maximum potential, round up the pizza lovers and head into Pequods.
  36. The only pro is the pizza, not the thin crust (thats gross, don't buy by the slice), the pan pizza is excellent.
  37. Thick crust and lots of cheese don't make a good pizza.
  38. discovered Pequod's after visiting a friend in Lincoln Park and it has been my favorite pizza ever since.
  39. The thing that makes them stick out above the rest is that the thin crust pizza is just as good as the pan pizza.
  40. love the fresh tomatoe and the caramalzed crust.
  41. In addition, the mushrooms are a great appitizer.
  42. Every once in awhile, I order their par baked pizza to cook at home and it always tastes as good as it does in the restaurant.
  43. Cornmeal crust was tasteless, grease pooled up on th pizza and plate, sausage was bland.
  44. Although I didn't mind the "dive" experience that Pequod's used to provide, you can't ignore the fact that the pan pizza is still excellent.
  45. This is one of my favorite pizza places in the city.
  46. dont understand why everyone on this site thinks this is great pizza.

I have recently moved from Chicago and dreamnt of Pequods last night. Their caramelized crust and amazing ingredients made this place a staple for my family. I am thinking of driving back for a pie this weekend. :)

Windy City Pizza Club

by WindyCityPizzaClub at Citysearch

I went to Pequod's Pizzeria in Lincoln Park tonight with Windy City Pizza Club. They took our reservation because we had a large party and honored it with a nice table in the upstairs area. The tables were nice, but the lighting was poor. I suppose the building is just old though. The menu was pretty good with a basic amount of pizza which was expected from places that specialize in making good crust.

I ordered a Pan Sausage 10 inch which is a pretty awesome size wise as it feeds 1-2 people with 4 giant slices. I really like burnt crust and this was awesome stuff. They caramelize the crust to a dark brown color and crunchy texture. The pizza itself was good, not great as it had way too much tomato sauce. I really liked the crust and sausage!

Obviously, I was with a group of 20 people which usually results in semi slower service, but shouldn't have been this slow. I am not sure if they didn't have enough servers on, but it was pretty terrible. By far the worst service I have ever had at a pizza place. Don't get me wrong, our waitress was sweet and nice and helped us out, but it was extra slow tonight. The pizza's took almost an hour to come out, and some pizza's got screwed up in the kitchen and came out even later than that. Water service was slow but not important as there were no bus boys on duty.

Again, the pizza was definitely good, not great, and our waitress was nice, but the actual service wasn't good. The check actually came out with just a bunch of numbers on it. We had no clue what they stood for until we had it clarified for us. I would go back, but not with a large group.

I go to Chicago for this pizza

by guardfrog at Citysearch

I have never lived in Chicago, but occasionally visit for business and/or visits with friends. I discovered Pequod's after visiting a friend in Lincoln Park and it has been my favorite pizza ever since. I've taken co-workers, friends, and family there when we've been in town. The pizza is unlike any I've ever eaten--it's the best. I don't know what else to say here, other than I've hopped in many a Chicago cab and told them to take me "near Webster and Clyburn" to Pequod's in my southern accent (I've never lived above the Mason Dixon line). That may disqualify me from judging pizza in some people's minds, but I guarantee you that if you eat a pizza at Pequod's, you'll know what I mean. It's been way too long...need to plan a trip.

  • Pros: The greatest pizza I've encountered.
  • Cons: They don't have one in other cities.
