What Our Expert Scouts Say

Pequod's Pizzeria

Chicago-style pizza is NOT all created equal. Although there's not much artistry to Pequod's, the caramelized crust turns me into the hungriest of lions - one that can eat an entire large pie. Grrr.

More than the building got burned by the fire.. Pequod's just isn't the same. Since the reopening, the place looks like starbucks took over pizza hut. The atmosphere is completely dull and the staff is disorganized. What ever happened to the guy in the yankee's cap, the music, the fun, the energy? The pizza has been equally as inconsistent too. I used to sit at the bar for hours eating and drinking, having a blast. Now it is just boring. It is really too bad the fire didn't just burn the building...but the soul of pequods too.

Best Pizza in the City. I've lived in Chicago for 6 years and I've had pizza at basically ever other "Best Of" in the city and Pequods is by far my favorite. I eat there about 2-3 times a month. My girlfriend and I don't even have to order any more they just recognized us when we come in and ask if we want the usual. Good Food, Friendly Service, Good Prices...

PRO's and CON's. The only pro is the pizza, not the thin crust (thats gross, don't buy by the slice), the pan pizza is excellent. Unfortunatly, the place looks really gross, no ambiance, no comfortable feel, it doesn't even pass as a sports bar, its just gross. The service is worse and the attitude of the saturday night manager is pathetic. If you're in the mood for good pizza, I suggest getting it delivered.

REAL Chicago Pizza!. Being born and raised in an Italian home in Chicago with HOMEMADE pizza being cooked in the oven weeky, I am sooooooooooooooo picky picky picky about the pizza that goes in my mouth!

I've been eating Pequod's for six years, and I have NEVER had a bad pie!!

Its thick, its cheesy, its got carmalized crust.

And oh my goodness - the sauce has FLAVOR (unlike other "Chicago-style" pizzas). Thick crust and lots of cheese don't make a good pizza. Pequods has ALL the right ingredients. Partnered with a beer, you can't go wrong!

Two Words... Carmalized Crust. I discovered Peaquod's while attending DePaul back in 2000, and I have been addicted ever since. While Peaquod's does have great thin crust pizza, the reason to go there is for their pan pizza with carmalized crust. What is carmalized crust you ask? Darkened cheese around the edge of the pizza, that gives the pizza a toatlly distinct flavor that tastes like it just came out of the oven. In addition, the mushrooms are a great appitizer. The price is right as you only need to order a small pan for 2 people (unless you are a super BIG eater). If you want truly awesome pizza with a totally distinct but awesome flavor, Peaquods is for you!

Lincoln Park pizza parlor offers flavorful pies and a casual atmosphere.. In Short
Named for the ill-fated ship in "Moby Dick," Pequod's is a mix of no-nonsense servers, neighborhood families and college couples. Hundreds of photos and graffiti cover walls, with a smattering of local sports memorabilia. The menu offers Italian standards and starters like mozzarella sticks, zucchini sticks, jalapeno poppers and stuffed mushrooms. But it's the pizza, with signature caramelized cheese, sweet, flavorful sauce and generous toppings, that brings in the customers.

I am a Chef & I love Pequods Pizza. I know how to make my own pizza but I think that Pequod's makes the best pizza in Chicago. Before I use to go to the one in Morton Grove and I am happy that we have one in the City. I order the thin crust and it's out of this world.

Addictive!. This is THE BEST Pizza in Chicago. I used to live in Bucktown and have left for SFO, and everytime I come to town to hang out with friends, I always take make sure that I come to Pequod's for their thin crust pizza it is as unique as a NY Thin Crust and I LOVE IT! I only wish that they can send these stuff frozen and flown to other states so I can enjoy them anytime I want to.

My favorite. Peaquod's pizza is about as fresh as you can get. The thing that makes them stick out above the rest is that the thin crust pizza is just as good as the pan pizza. I love the fresh tomatoe and the caramalzed crust. I will admit that the carmalized crust is an aquired taste, but I have yet to meet someone who didn't like it after the first try. If you are dining in, it is a great place to watch a cubs game on a large screen. The service is pretty good, however they seem to get pushy when it is busy. The price is great cause I never walk away hungry (a small pizza is perfect for 2) This place gets my vote!
