“small, cozy storefront (or my living room when I get take-out) is a great place to enjoy the best chicken Vesuvio around or my favorite pasta dish anywhere, the orichetti del contadino, (with sausage and rapini greens).”
“Decent, cheap wine and good service top it off.”
“Memorable meal”
“The regular menu is pretty common, but the specials are wonderful.”

Delicious Italian!. I'm Italian and am very used to homemade Italian foods, which are the best. Well last night, walking down Division, my boyfriend and I see this restaurant. Outside seating and Italian food, I thought great. The food was great, the service was great, the prices were reasonable, and the portions were perfect. I will definitely be going back there!
This homey spot serves Southern Italian cuisine to a loyal crowd..
In Short
This busy, casual restaurant has a bistro feel with simple wooden chairs, blackboard specials and ruffled curtains. The Italian menu offers contemporary dishes like thin-crust quattro-stagioni pizza with artichoke hearts, prosciutto, olives and plum tomatoes, plus classic selections like rich gnocchi with sweet, smooth tomato sauce. From the blackboard, try grilled tilapia (a frequent special), bathed in tomato sauce and served with fresh veggies and tomatoes. For dessert, there's homemade tiramisu or gelato.
Memorable meal. I lived in Italy for 6 months, and this is GREAT Italian. The regular menu is pretty common, but the specials are wonderful. The wine selection is from all over the world, not just Italy. For those that criticize the service- "customer service" is not in the Italian language, and the last thing they want to do is rush you in any way. Go with a relaxed attitude and have an authentic meal.
Beyond Rude.
Last time I ate there, our waiter wasn't to be found after he dropped off our plates, and when we finally did flag him down for some more beverages, he visibly and audibly was annoyed with our request.
Recently, I called to try to make a reservation. The conversation went like this:
Me: Hi, I'd like to make a reservation for Sunday night.
VC: For four?
Me: No, for two.
VC: I don't think I can squeeze you in tonight.
Me: No, I said Sunday night.
VC: Oh, OK... Hm... we're really busy right now, so could you call back tomorrow around 4:00 or 4:30?
Me: That's crap, take my reservation!
VC: OK, hold on a second...

I will never dine there, ever. There are too many other restaurants that actually *want* my business.
Terrible Service. We have been frequenting Via Carducci for the past few years but on a recent visit we experienced terrible service. We were seated and drink orders were taken but our server did not return for 30 minutes. When we finally received our food it was mediocre at best. We used their valet service and when we went to retrieve our car from the valet he stated our car had been towed. I spoke with the manager of Via Carducci and he stated, it is not his responsibility. I was shocked and spent the next hour standing outside in the freezing cold at the towing lot trying to retrieve my car. Thanks but no thanks! We will not be returning.
Italian in Lincoln Park. Cozy Atmosphere - Best Italian North of North Ave.! Great variety to the menu and always a wine special.
8. Via Carducci has excellent thin crust pizza. Their chicken and veal dishes are superb. Unlike many Italian restaurants, Via Carducci has wonderful salads that complement any main course.
Classically Good Italian. Via Carducci may not be on anyone's radar screen as one of the better Italian spots in the city, but that's fine as far as I'm concerned. A small, cozy storefront (or my living room when I get take-out) is a great place to enjoy the best chicken Vesuvio around or my favorite pasta dish anywhere, the orichetti del contadino, (with sausage and rapini greens). Decent, cheap wine and good service top it off. So stay away!
IGNORE THE NAYSAYERS!. This place has the best gnocchi i've ever tasted, the service has never been bad, albeit maybe a bit relaxed on occasion, and the prices are reasonable. Some people just love to complain, ignore them and get yourself in here for some true southern Italian delights. There's something for everyone in this great little neighborhood trattoria.
