“Small, but the staff is very friendly.”
Friendly, weathered Irish pub in Lincoln Park..
The Scene
Filled with Gap-clad neighbors, this small pub dates back to 1946, and it shows--in a good way. Vintage Chicago photos dot the walls and lend a sense of history, furthered by an intricately carved oak bar. An affable alternative to see-and-be-seen settings, River Shannon features antique tables, a chatty crew that grows as daylight wanes and good, cold pints tapped without pretension.
The Draw
One of the best Irish whisky selections in the city--a whole shelf is devoted. Don't know much about it? Frequently offered whisky flights open minds. Rotating taps include both basics and pleasant surprises, while house-honed drinks such as the Black Hook Bomber--a car bomb variation with Black Hook, Bass and Jameson--are addictive. XRT-like sounds and friendly dart competitions are the norm; though don't be surprised if you stumble in on a boisterous game of Cranium.
Great Bar!!!. I think that this is one of the best bars in the city. Small, but the staff is very friendly. They have a ton of different Irish whiskeys & a ton of beers to choose from.
Cozy bar, hopping nightlife. The dark, carved wood, tin ceiling and antique fixtures give character to this old neighborhood bar. It's a tiny space that fills up quickly and the noise level makes conversation difficult. The ladies' bathroom is tiny, too--there's really only room for one person to wait at a time. But the atmosphere is welcoming and the service is prompt and very friendly.
