Subterranean wing, beer and sports haven in Lincoln Park.. Tucked inconspicuously sub-sidewalk level in the basement of a Lincoln Park mansion, this dimly lit, cavernous sports bar appeals to nearly everyone with its ample beer selection, classy interior and lack of pretension. The wildly popular chicken wings don’t hurt either. Thanks to 22-inch TVs at every table, this is the ideal place to hole up with the crew, watch the game and nosh the day away. Wings are available every which way: the familiar mild, medium and hot, plus the uber-hot "Oh My Gosh!" or the signature Tang-Z-Q sauce. Non-wing lovers can try out the chicken on salads, sandwiches or thin crust "peezas."
Yak's has the best wings, bar none.. I have eaten wings all over the country, and Yak-zies far and away serves the best wings I've ever had. It's a great easy going atmosphere and the other food is good to. Beer is relatively cheap. Rating a chain like the one with girls dressed in orange shorts, or BW-3's over Yak-zies is a joke. They're okay, but Yak-zies "tang" sauce is the best their is. Prices are reasonable and the value is great.. When running the Chicago marathon a few years ago, the only thing that got me from mile 20 to the finish was knowing I was going to Yak's afterwards...
A straightforward sports bar with a devout neighborhood following..
The Scene
Located in the basement of a Lakeview graystone, this no-nonsense neighborhood bar keeps regulars happy and gives late-night revelers a place to keep the party going. The decor (or pleasant lack thereof) --lacquered wooden tables, worn bar stools, brick walls and a couple framed Chicago posters--is as basic as the beer selection: a few tap beers, the fanciest one Blue Moon, and no Bud products in the house.
The Draw
This Yak-zies location (there's another one in Wrigleyville) has been open since 1966--and to the happiness of the regulars, not much has changed. They keep coming back for the wings, pizza and the items with the signature "tang" sauce. Even the servers stick around--the newest server has been there for more than two years. Don't miss the free help-yourself popcorn.
Best Late Night Bar in Town. If you want to have a great time with some friendly neighbors, Yak-zies is the place to be. The food (served till 1am) is great bar & grill fare, and the Pizza and Hot-wings selection (served till 3am) is the perfect compliment to an ice cold beer. If you like Bud though, try another bar, cuz the two things they don't do are Credit Card and Bud.
