Finally found my favorite stylist!!. ALLYSON is where it's at! I have fine hair and I always want something different, which is hard with straight hair. I'll come in with ideas of what I want and she tells me the truth, what will work and not work with my hair. She's not pushy about it, but makes helpful suggestions since she's the professional. I always come out with a different AMAZING cut and color that works with my hair type. Also, the atmosphere in the salon is great! Everyone is friendly and will definitely make you feel comfortable.

Now that I've found Allyson, I can't imagine going to anyone else!

Someone who listened!!!. I had my hair cut and colored by Sharyl yesterday, and I can't believe how many compliments I've had already. I wear my hair long and when I told her to only take half an inch off, that's all she took. My highlights turned out like the picture I brought in. I am very particular about my hair, and it was nice to finally find someone who listened to exactly what I wanted. I was also surprised that when I went to pay, I received a teenager discount because I am 19.

Great color and cut by a great stylist!!. I was referred to Jimmy at J Gordon by an aquaintance of mine whose hair is allways beautiful whenever I see her. She allways raves about her stylist "Jimmy Hong" So I decided to book an appointment for a cut and highlights. When I arrived the salon was busy. Jimmy greeted me and then really took the time to listen and consult with me about what I wanted. What I got was the best cut of my life! It was not only chic but my hair seemed to almost fall into place even after I shook it! I am also very happy with the highlights he gave me ( he added more around my face to "frame it and add brightness" he said, and it really did. ) I highly reccomend him and I will definitely go back!

Thanks for a great experience!. I just moved to Chicago and was looking for a new stylist. Based on their great online reviews, I made an appointment at J. Gordon for a cut and style, and it was fantastic. Really, really, nice people. A really cute environment (lots of antiques and art). The shampoo was great . Many thanks to everyone for making me feel so comfortable on my first visit to a new salon. I love my hair and will defintiely be back.

Hidden Gem For a Great Cut/Color!. What a wonderful experience I had last night being a first time client at J. Gordon! Having gone to the same salon now for a couple of years, I was nervous to make the change. After arriving at J Gordon, I immediately felt at ease and comfortable. From the time I walked in the salon to the time I left, everyone was very friendly and down to earth. I went in for a haircut (wanting suggestions for a change) and highlights. Mina (senior stylist & colorist who was extremely friendly) consulted me and offered a nice idea/change for my hairstyle which is what I wanted! Seems hard to find, for me anyways! The cut and highlights turned out great and I am very pleased. I was also surprised & very pleased when Nora washed my hair and also gave me a relaxing neck & shoulder massage as well! Wow! Walked into work this morning and received some nice compliments! I definitely plan on going back to Mina at J Gordon!

The best color ever. I was referred to J. Gordon Designs by a friend after getting a terrible color job at another local salon. My highlights were way too brassy and way, way too bold and chunky. I saw Nikki for my color, and she was able to fix the highlights by adding some more highlights and lowlights to my hair and toning down the brass. I think this is the best my color has ever looked. Everyone was so friendly and I felt very comfortable in the salon, even though I arrived with a big challenge. I definitely recommend this salon.

Commitment to quality and integrity. At J. Gordon Designs, we take the quality of our work and customer satisfaction very seriously. We have been in business for 35 years, and have worked diligently to earn the respect and trust of the community that we service. We are troubled by the review posted by Lish4. First, we hope that it was not written by an unethical competitor, as sometimes happens on CItySearch. They write bad reviews about others, and glowing reviews about themsleves.

However, if it truly was written by a guest in our salon, we greatly regret that you were unhappy with your service. We wish that you had contacted us so that we could have corrected your highlights if you felt they were too light. And, we could have given you a treatment to moisturize your hair. All new clients receive a follow-up card encouraging them to call if any part of their experience was unsatisfactory, and we never heard from you. In fact, we offer all of our clients a complimentary "re-do" within 2 weeks of a service if any aspect of it does meet with their satisfaction.

Also, I feel I must add, for those of you who may have read the review, we NEVER "do whatever we want," especially with color. We always do a consultation, discuss options and upkeep, and come to a mutual understanding about what will be done before we begin a service. Perhpas there was some miscommunication, and I apologize if this was the case.



To Lish4, I wish you had given us the opportunity to correct anything you may have been unhappy with. But, I also understand that you might not have felt comfortable or confident returning to the same stylist/colorist if your experience was not what you ahd hoped for. You mentioned that you had visited the salon a few months prior to your recent CitySearch posting. I hope you will contact me. I would like to offer you a complimentary highlight and conditioning treatment with myself or another technician.

Color with Frizz. I heard this place was great for color. This was my first time getting highlights, and I told her to feel free to do as she pleased. My hair was dark brown, and I received very blonde highlights. This was not the look I was going for, not to mention how bad it dried my hair out. Several months later I still have the frizz. The cut wasn't too bad, but who can tell with hair that stands out 6 inches from your head?? Not recommended for the price, time, and end result!

Great hair, no attitude!. I have been a very happy client at this salon for more than 10 years. About 3 years ago, I moved out of Lincoln Park, but I still come back for my cut and color. Jerry and his staff have always been warm and accomodating to my requests. I have seen several different stylists at J. Gordon and they all have been excellent. No attitude here! Keep up the good work!
