Traditional Chines Cuisene at a Modest Price.
As the strip mall / Carryout Chinese restaurants open up with increasing numbers . . . and the older sit-down restaurants close under the pressure of higher property taxes; it becoming a choice of either taking your food 'To Go' or eating under flourescent lighting. The Golden Wok is still hanging in there, and is at a par with Chinatown as far as expert cuisine preparation and SUPURB taste! Their Mongolian Beef would bring a smile to Gingus Chan himself, and is served 'complete' - topped with crunchy rice noodles ( a traditional touch that has been left out in many restaurants). The owners are gracious, and grateful....and you'll find the service accomodating, friendly and prompt. The Golden Wok is on Central Ave, 1 block north of Elston in a residential neighborhood. There's plenty of street parking [not Zoned] as well as a small parking lot around back.
If you want to go out and enjoy a delicious, unhurried meal at 1990's prices and not have to pay for valet parking, you'll have to try the Golden Wok. Seroiusly, if they were located in Lakview or Lincoln Park you would need reservations! Keeping with tradition, they're Closed Mondays . . . . .Enjoy !
