“but you wonder if they could charge people $5 or $10 they could actually make a decent living space for the animals.”
“It may be "free" to us, but I think that the animals are paying a huge price.”

How many cities have an enormous free zoo with a surrounding park, nature conservatory and lakefront access. This is what makes Chicago beautiful.

Most people think "animals" when they think of the Lincoln Park Zoo, but they've just spent millions of dollars turning the South Pond of Lincoln Park into a beautiful green space, walking trail and nature sanctuary.
Once Great. The park was great, then they decided to make to many up grades. Which has left the zoo half empty. The zoo should be back to great look in the summer of 2003.
Too crowded. It's a nice zoo, but it's always insanely crowded everytime I go there. It's not fun if you're having to constantly deal with upset kids, even your upset kid, cuz of the crowds.
Amazing!. This zoo thoroughly surprised me. The exhibits are beautiful and the diversity is amazing.
Best value in Chicago!. What could be a better value than free?! It's a beautiful park setting to walk through AND you get to stop along the way and view the animals. I had a lot of fun. Can't wait to bring my boyfriend along and try the swan-shaped paddle boats! ;)
free. this zoo is so nice and it is free. I would rather drive to lincoln park then broodfield. Clean also.
Free? animals are paying a huge price. I cannot believe people have anything positive to say about this "attraction." There is NO ROOM for any animals to live in their cages. I think that zoos are a great learning center for people. However, the conditions that these animals are forced to live are just painful to see. It may be "free" to us, but I think that the animals are paying a huge price.
I can't believe it's free. This is the best bargain around. When you complain about being taxed here and there, just remember the great free stuff in Chicago -- and Lincoln Park Zoo is at the top of that list. The best time to drop by is after work. I try to pick up my little boy early, then we run over for an hour or so. And he loves the merry-go-round. Parking is pain on the weekend, but it's pretty easy to find a place on weekdays.
Avoid the weekends.
I enjoy this beautiful zoo all year round. I've come to this zoo since I was very little. My favorite areas are the seals, the primate house, the childrens zoo, and the lion house.
You can never get bored here.
City escape. It's so nice to have this green space in the middle of the city--and to have a free attraction like this spacious zoo is an added bonus. Great urban escape.
