Editorial Review for Park West – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
Once your eyes adjust to the cavernous darkness of this former burlesque house, you'll marvel at the tasteful brushed-aluminum balconies; booths toward the back provide more seating. With tea candles lit, the venue is transformed into a cozy, date-friendly cabaret. Moderately sized, the Park West sells only between 750 and 1,000 tickets--all general admission--per show. A small dance floor is left open for large crowds, but covered with tables on more intimate evenings (bookings are diverse).

Insider Tips

Know Before You Go

There are three bars, but waitstaff will run drinks if you're seated. This keeps the bar area free of traffic--great if you're thirsty, but not great if you're looking to chat someone up.

The Extras

The inexpensive coat check is essential for Chicago winters, and gentlemen shouldn't forget to tip the washroom attendant.

User Reviews for Park West

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

The Park West is Chicago's best concert venue, by far, but it just doesn't have the bands it had in the "old days," and that's a shame. In the 1980's, PW was the place to be, with the likes of U2 on their first US tour, Heads on their second tour, and all the British pub rockers and punk bands. New booking agency might help. Who exactly books PW now? Jam?

Pros: Great sound, great sightlines, nice room

Cons: needs better acts

There is not a bad seat in this place and the sound is incredible.

Pros: ideal show venue

Cons: expensive drinks
