In Short – A Chicago landmark, the building at 2120 S Michigan Avenue is one of the most famous addresses in the history of popular American music. From 1957 to 1967, the building was home to Chess Records where giants like Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, John Lee Hooker, Etta James and Aretha Franklin recorded. Today, the Blues Heaven Foundation operates on the site, striving to promote and preserve the blues, and support blues artists.
This place is GREAT!

I had the oppurtunity to visit the address formerly known as Chess Records at 2120 Michigan Ave. in Chicago this past June. Being from Ohio I don't find myself in this area too often. I had to come, so many of my musical heroes recorded in this place and I've wanted to visit for some time now. I siezed the oppurtunity when my sisters family invited me on holiday to Sawyer, Michigan and I am so glad I made the trip.
I didn't have any prior expectations going in and from the moment I was buzzed in I felt that I was in a very sacred place. I am still giddy from the experience.
I particularly wanted to climb the back stairway to walk the same steps that Muddy, Walter,Willie ,The Wolf and Chuck, to name just a few, walked. I spent some time after my tour in the alley out back soaking up the blues vibe that this wonderful place gives off. WOW!! If you haven't been here yet, by all means do, you will not regret it one bit.My plan is to return again and again. Hope to see you there! Yours in the blues, Paul.
- Pros: You owe it to yourself to stop by.
- Cons: No down side!

Know Before You Go:
The Rolling Stones used the address 2120 S Michigan Avenue as the title of a blues instrumental on their mid-'60s album "12 X 5." The song and much of the album were recorded at the studio.
