gotta know when to go. it's true, on weekends--especially sundays--this place is a mob scene. but weeknights are usually fine, especially later in the evening. and you gotta love that this place is open 24/7! (except on sundays, when it closes at midnight). the produce section's pretty weak, but the deli's got a good selection (if you don't mind the grumpy ladies who work the counter). all in all, a fine representative of jewel stores across the chicagoland area.

Does in a pinch. This Jewel is probably not the worst in the Chicago area, but it's also not the best. Always cramped and always crowded, the selection here is often downright depressing. I went in one day for a two-liter Coke and, when I found none on the self and asked an employee, was told there were no more in stock. I'm still not sure if it was really sold out or if the employee just didn't feel like checking, but either scenario is unsatisfactory to me (what store runs out of Coca-Cola???). I usually go to another grocery store chain instead of putting myself in a position in which I have to deal with such unevenness -- but, to be fair, I recently had a good experience at another Jewel location.
