Casual neighborhood eatery serves generous portions of lunch and breakfast to a loyal River West crowd.. In Short
A crowded cafe with a high green ceiling, brick walls and a bustling counter, Uncle Mike's feeds neighborhood workers, aging residents and police officers. It opens early for hearty--and many even healthy--breakfasts: hot oatmeal, big plates of fresh fruit, greaseless omelets and pancakes. But the star is the tender 12-ounce skirt steak with eggs. A couple dozen sandwiches are served all day, while daily specials (chicken teriyaki, rainbow trout) are served from 11am.

Real Good Food Just Around the Corner!. A Nice Breakfast? Perfect Lunch? Hearty Snack? well, just walk right into Uncle Mike's Place and you'll surely get one! I've visited Chicago for only a short time but this place really got me hooked! I love the fruit platters, the marinated steak and especially the different Spams they serve! Plus the very warm and welcoming atmosphere makes Uncle Mike's a very nice place to start your day.

Not trendy. Just plain ol' good!. Great basic greasy-spoon breakfasts for very reasonable prices--lower than any other breakfast joint in Chicago. Unless you require eating somewhere trendy (eg, HUE, Bongo Room), Uncle Mike's is the place to go!
