A real neighborhood favorite with wonderful comfort good and surprisingly good cocktails.

A fun, kitschy spot with crowd-pleasing Southern grub. Try the shrimp and grits and be forewarned that portions are gigantic.

One of the best vegan selections around -- try the sautéed spinach and the hoppin' Jack sans cheese.
Great Meal and atmosphere. My husband and I were vacationing in Chicago and ate at the Wishbone on Washington and I must say we really enjoyed ourselves. The atmosphere was great, the service was wonderful and the food was delicious. We would visit again and we suggest that you visit as well. The food is not the normal bland food you would find at traditional places. The flavor and variety will have everyone ordering different things off the menu and wanting to sample off each other's plate, lol. The grits were wonderful and the freshly made strawberry lemonade was great!
Fantastic Southern food. This place is great. The biscuits and gravy, grits and bloody marys are all phenomenal. Cute decor inside and a great patio outside. One of the best brunches in the city.
Fun fun fun. I just moved to Chicago a month ago, and I've been to Wishbone three times -- each visit has been terrific. The Savannah shrimp omelette is a hangover cure on a plate...genius. The perfect brunch spot, though it gets crazy crowded: proof, however, that it's a deservedly hot spot.
Wild about Wishbone!. Wishbone is a wonderful southern style restaurant with a funky flair. The restaurant is large, decorated with eclectic decor, and while it gets crowded sometimes, the "adult" (formally the smoking) section, is more quiet and private. As a vegetarian, there's quite a wide variety of things to eat. I love the 'Hoppin' John' dish- black eyed peas, rice, mixed veggies, topped with chedder cheese. Yummmy! They also have many veggie side dishes, and the best mashed potatoes ever! Also, you get a lot of food for your money here, the portions are huge! The service is friendly and catering to the patrons. They also have a great bar. I love going in for hearty soul food, and unwinding with a cocktail. I wish the veggie dishes were slightly more spicy, but other than that, Wishbone rocks! I also adore their trademark snearing poodle too, she so cute!
Wishbone has gone downhill????. I have been going to Wishbone on Lincoln for the last five years. My last visit was absolutely horrible. The service was the worst. I don't know what happened, but I don't think I will be returning. There are plenty of other breakfast places in the area with better food and service. Too bad, this used to be a good restaurant.
Haute cuisine meets soul food at this colorful restaurant..
In Short
Spacious and airy, this Roscoe Village hangout is a favorite for Southern-style brunch. Piquant red eggs on corn tortillas with black beans, cheese, chili-ancho sauce, sour cream and salsa is a menu standout. Other favorites include cheese grits, Hoppin' John, chicken-apple-maple sausage and fat breakfast burritos rolled in a whole-wheat tortilla. Dinner offers three shrimp starters--shrimp fricassee, shrimp and grits and Cajun shrimp--plus meat loaf bathed in a chunky red sauce.
great value. I can't believe what a great deal this place is!! The food is really good, consistent and everything is made from scratch. It can get really busy but great things are worth waiting for. Definately try the shrimp and grits. Also it's a great place to take out of town guests, especially the one on Washington. You get to experience a real cross-section of Chicago there.
Unique Menu. This place is great. Never been to the one downtown, but I like this one. Always pretty busy, somewhat crowded.....but the wait has never been too long. The food is great, the price is right, and you won't find more unique food on any other menu. Try the Crunchy French Toast breaded with corn flakes or the Jambalaya Omelette.
good ole souther cookin. I love wishbone and agree with the opener review as well. I hope that this does not become an "it" place to eat. I doubt that it will, not because it doesn't have the potential to become a place like that but because it is an establishment that no longer needs to prove itself worthy of it's corwds. The Sunday brunch is awesome and the killer bloody mary alone has kept me coming back for more. I would reccomend this place to everyone who has a hanckerin for home cookin
