Transitions Bookplace Closed.
The previous review, while very nice, is very odd here, dated 2010, since Transitions closed in 2008. Transitions was a wonderful bookstore, gift store and meeting place. It's sadly missed by many.
It also was not in Lincoln Park, another misnomer here in the previous review.
We are all looking for great places . . . reviewing a store that's been gone for a long time is bizarre.
Lincoln Park bookseller that feeds the mind, body and soul..
The Scene
This sanctuary in the trendy and traffic-snarled North/Clybourn/Sheffield triangle offers patrons inspiration and healing through an abundance of personal growth and self-help books, calendars, tapes and greeting cards; a peaceful atmosphere is created by New Age music and the calming sounds of an indoor waterfall. Area loft-dwellers, empty-nesters, grown-up hippies, students all coexist happily here.
The Goods
The store has 30,000 titles in categories ranging from Eastern and Western spirituality to alternative healing, psychology to creativity. Display tables featuring works by authors scheduled for readings/signings are placed between short rows of bookshelves, making browsing easy and enjoyable. A good selection of greeting cards, a sizable and comfortable cafe, and a friendly and helpful staff attract customers from neighboring stores, as well as from all over the city, who know this is the grooviest bookstore in town.
