Great selection of material aside from comics. Aside from the cool indie comics and zines, this place has a very interesting collection of magazines, books and art books to browse. One of my favorite spots in the city.

Flying the freak flag for 'zines and underground literature.. The Scene
In 1997 Quimby's changed ownership and moved a few blocks away from it's original location. But it continues to offer the same variety of glossy photo-lit and other miscellaneous eye candy that has made it an underground Library of Congress. It is easy to spend accidental hours there after stopping by for just one title--the staff would never dream of interrupting your browsing, except to announce that the place is closing in five minutes.

The Goods
Like a comfortable, meagerly organized library, Quimby's is bliss for anyone who: A) likes to read, B) has a short attention span, or C) likes soft-core porn and/or fetishes. In addition to selling tattoo mags, refrigerator magnets and and loads of comics, Quimby's hosts readings and signings by fringe publishing luminaries, and supports 'zinefests and projects like CUFF, the Chicago Underground Film Festival. As with a good documentary or dime store pulp novel, Quimby's is one more reason to be thankful for the First Amendment.
