The Scene
Worn-in hardwood floors show signs of the heavy business that this homey, bi-level restaurant has seen through the years, a weekend destination for North Park families and couples. Colorful gnomes dance playfully in a hilly scene painted on the right wall, a cheerful mural in a simple, Swedish-flavored dining room of wooden tables situated closely together. Friendly servers handle constant foot traffic with ease while managing not to rush diners out too soon.
The Food
Meals get a Scandinavian treatment here, fulfilling sweet and savory cravings. Bananas and strawberries with cream cover every inch of a thick Belgian waffle, cut in four slices for easy sharing. Minced, perfectly salted corned beef is paired with eggs, fried potatoes and sauteed onions. Whipped cream cheese and fresh dill peek out from the fold of the Oslo Omelette, enhancing a filling of flaky, smoked salmon. A dinner standout includes Swedish meatballs with lingonberries.

I was very disappointed in my most recent trip here. On an early Monday night there were two servers and only a few tables but service was not good. Salad came before being finished with appetizer. Had to ask for more water. Entree came out just as finishing salad. Didn't ask about food until ready to take plates away. Also, the food that night was only mediocre. Walnut crusted trout was not crusty but mushy. Soupy sauce that covered fish made it mushy. Bread pudding for dessert had no flavor. Maybe it was a different cook than usual but I'll not go back for some time. Too pricey for poor service and only fair food.

Tre Kronor has some of the flakiest and most delicious pastries I have ever had. I didn't know much about Swedish cuisine before we started coming here but I like trying new things and they are always really encouraging and informative. I think last time I went I had a bread called limpa (not sure on spelling) that was very good and an very tasty omelette. The restaurant is a converted house so it has quite a bit of old world charm.
