What People Are Saying About Garcia's Restaurant

In Short – Two entrances on Western and Lincoln avenues open to different dining areas. One is a nonsmoking section used mostly for takeout; the other is a comfortable, narrow space with hand-carved wood chairs and colorful wall murals. Locals dig into reasonably priced tacos, enchiladas, burritos and combo plates; one favorite is the lengua en salsa verde (tongue in green sauce) with fluffy rice, beans, diced onions, lettuce and cilantro.
Editor's Tips
- Parking:
- It's tough on this stretch of Lincoln, but a couple of lots are located one block south. The meters operate 24 hours a day.
- What to Drink:
- Margaritas are strong and available in flavors like banana, coconut, mango, melon and pineapple. Or sip one of 18 different tequilas.
- The Extras:
- Menudo, available Saturdays and Sundays only, is spiced just right and filled with plenty of morsels of tripe.

My Mexican Food Go-To
by rbren123 at Citysearch
Been going to Garcia's since 1989 and I can honestly say that there are very few Mexican restaurants like it. The chicken enchiladas in mole are to die for, as is the burrito suizo con carne asada. For $10 you can eat like a king/queen. Rick Bayless will charge you quadruple that for the same tasting/quality food!

this is a great neighborhood restaurant with reasonable prices. everything we had here was great. love their burritos! good, traditional mexican food at a great price.
- Pros: price, parking, location, food
- Cons: small space
Alicia the bartender should be FIRED!!!
by vegitoboi at Citysearch
You know, I've put up with alot with the shady staff and the mediocre tasting, greasy, and questionable food at this establishment. Being probably the only "decent" late night Mexican restaurant in Lincoln Square, I don't really have a choice but to go here when the craving hits since I refuse to go to TBK or Taco Bell. My previous review was a so-so one as well. There's just this one constant problem (or should I say person) I've had problems with, the bartender Alicia. I'll be honest, I befrended the other bartender and she ALWAYS made sure everything was ok with me. With the other one, however, she's HORRIBLE and my last visit was the last straw. She ALWAYS seems not to care about the customers and if you're not Latino/a, you'd be lucky if she spoke to you. She pretends that she doesn't see you when you need something other than the check or she'll act like she doesn't speak English. But the thing that broke the camel's back that happened last night, SHE DOESN'T CHECK ON YOUR FOOD ORDER!!! I'M F'N SERIOUS! It wasn't enough that she waited 5 minutes to even ask me with an attitude "Do you know what you want?" without giving me a menu, but then when I do order it took 45 MINUTES AND ARRIVED LUKEWARM. Normally, it only takes 10 at most (and yes, this was an easy order). 45 MINUTES AND NOT ONCE DID SHE LEAVE HER POST AND CHECK OR INFORMED ME OF ANY DELAY!!! Heck, in that 50 minutes, I could've eaten and left with time to spare. All she wanted to do was flirt with the "esses" that came in and flaunt around her "things". I have NEVER been so upset with this establishment or her conduct and now I don't know where to go for Mexican food that is near to my location. I hope when they expand the restaurant they'll expand without her because she's HORRIBLE...and saying horrible is being nice; Citysearch won't let me express how I REALLY feel. Thanks Alicia, I'm NEVER F'N COMING BACK BECAUSE OF YOU, B*&@^!!!
- Pros: the only "decent" Mexican restaurant in Lincoln Square, near bars, open late, close to Western brown line stop
- Cons: ALICIA SHOULD BE FIRED!!!, parking (especially summer weekends), biased staff, weak margaritas (in size and taste), broken furniture, food and choices can be improved (especially being greasy)
Garcia's Mexican Restaurant "Bad Experiences from LUZ waitress/cashier
by jmoyblack22 at Citysearch
I frequent Garcia's restaurant on a regular basis and the food is good except for the Two Times that one of the manager's/cashier named LUZ waited on my friends and I. The first bad experience I had with LUZ was when I ordered two carry out taco dinners I specifically requested that my two 3 taco dinners please be placed in dinner boxes, but when I arrived, all of the tacos were wrapped up and stuck together in wax paper and aluminum foil. So I told her that I requested that the tacos be put in a dinner box. LUZ replied in a RUDE manner that I have to ask for them that way, I replied that I did order them that way, and she refused to redo my order. Second Bad experience from LUZ....She was covering the table that my son and I were having lunch at and I ordered some French Fries with my dinner and they came late to the table and they were saturated in oil and cold as if they were double fried in little broken up pieces. So I asked if she could have the cook remake the french fries because they were unacceptable. Well, to my surprise LUZ said in a RUDE manner "That's All We Have!!" and refused to even return the fries to the cook to show him and walked away. Well I have Never seen anyone So Unprofessional and RUDE, so I called her over to the table and told her how I felt to no avail....I said that if Oscar was here I would never be treated like this, she said well I'm Oscars mom, and I replied it doesn't matter that you're his mom, you should Know Better than to treat customers as rude as you do and that if a customer is unhappy with a food order as small and trivial as an order of fries, you should apologize and agree to remake them and not just reply "That's All We Have!!" I have been patronizing Garcia's for many years and have alway's felt welcome from the Owner, Oscar, Rigo and Lenny when he worked there.....But after my Two bad Experiences with LUZ I don't see myself returning to Garcia's Because of LUZ's RUDE and Unprofessional Behavior.
- Pros: Had Bad Experiences when serviced by LUZ waitress/cashier
- Cons: Had Bad Experiences when serviced by LUZ waitress/cashier
Best mexican in Lincoln Square
by jadedtim at Citysearch
Besides the many many many types of margaritas available, the food here is great. Some of the best steak I've had in a burrito, quesadilla, or taco. Service is decent, prices are very reasonable and they're open for the later crowds at night.
- Pros: Margaritas and steak quesadillas will keep me coming back
