High prices, sparse seating, and heaps of we're-to-cool-for-you hipster attitude make this a place to avoid. Better to spend your money at nearby Ennui.
- Pros: good coffe; tasty sandwiches
- Cons: high prices; sparse seating; staff attitude
Bar unlike any on Halsted
by ianchicago773
Like many before and many soon to come, I am a recent exile to Rogers Park, fleeing the persecution of inflated housing costs common in Halsted Street Boystown. I stumbled upon Charmers, what I like to describe simply as a little gem. In the past, I would have never considered going to this place, not with all the alternatives along the main strip off Lakeview or Andersonville. Now that I'm at Chicago's northern border, I would recommend stopping in just for kitch value. Don't expect twinks galore and shirtless musclemen here. What you can expect is a place to sit your fanny, throw down a cool drink, and actually be able to listen to the person sitting next to you without having to shout. This bar has history and this bar has character. Does make you feel like 'slumming' somewhat, but it's all good.
- Pros: comfortable, art deco, juke box
- Cons: older crowd, location
