One of the best independent boutiques on Chicago. Awesome for both men's & women's clothes. Don't be shy about shopping the sales rack!

Really fun place to shop. This store is bright and funky...just plain fun to shop in. Nice people. Really cute clothes, accessories, and gifts.

glorified junk shop. I wouldn't complain about the pricing here as much as the dirty, cluttered atmosphere. Is this a "vintage" or "thrift" shop? Is this a store for "hard-to-find" designers? Is this a pet shop (I agree with the reviewer who complained about the smell)? Trying to be all things to all people, it fails to find a niche.

I first read about them on Lucky Online and was disappointed in their favorable review...it's truly not even in the top 100 Chicago stores...the selection is NOT original, and there is PLENTY of attitude from the staff. That being said, I don't know why people complain about the prices here, of all things...that's what clothes COST.

cluttered atmosphere and average products. I don't know why my friends like this store, the selection is simply all over the place, the designers they carry aren't actually hard-to-find at all (and they don't sell 'em here for any less than anywhere else), and it smells like a catbox. It tries to be part-second-hand-store and part-hipster-boutique but looks like my grandmother's junked-up basement!

izzym19. hands down my favorite store in chicago. anytime i need something different or just something cute and totally comfortable, i find it at penelope's. sure, i might need to save my pennies for some items, but with american apparel tees and leroy's girl tops and skirts, there's always the perfect impulse buy. mostly its jena, joe, penelope and olive. other people can carry the same clothing lines but no one else has them!! thanks for having your store.

What a place. I'm tired of all the hoighty toighty ladies with their saccharine smiles working at the boutiques in Wicker Park. Penelope's is rejuvenating in its sincerity--from the clothes, to the cute girl who calculates your total on a Legos calculator--it is certainly not a place that is full of itself. If you like clothing with a little hipster flare to it, and impeccably, genuinely nice service, this is the place.

Sweet Penelope's. If you're a poor college girl like me, this place will rack up one helluva credit card debt. I got a winter coat by Johnson that I have NOT spotted on anyone else (and I trample through Chicago a lot) and am constantly getting complimented for. Needless to say, the service is excellent. Worth making a stop at.

Built By Wendy clothes too. How can you go wrong?

A punchy backdrop, funky duds for men and women and friendly owners adds up to blissful shopping for the alt-attired.. The Scene
Vivid blue, pop art-adorned walls welcome guys and gals to this vintage storefront. Low on attitude and big on fun clothing, the store's friendly, chatty staff and chain-defying regulars exude a casual-cool vibe. And its affordable not-too-dressy clothing assures that cool kids will be comfortably clad when headed to Bucktown bars.

The Goods
A light blend of vintage and new threads are geared toward those with an eye for the modern. Fred Perry track jackets in Kelly green promise lounging, workouts and walks with style, while floral cap-sleeved liberty print blouses from Johnson offer a touch of vintage for the contemporary lassie. Cute, mod handbags from Angela Adams are a to-die-for addition to accessory collections. Local Euro-inspired graphic tees for guys from Syndrome are high-fashion yet affordable, while high collar jackets from Merc do Carnaby Street revelers proud.
