Take a trip back to the ancient Near East.. In Short
The Joseph and Mary Grimshaw Egyptian Gallery reopened May 1999, after being closed for three years for renovation and expansion. The new climate-controlled environment enables the museum to exhibit items previously kept in storage, including fragile textiles, mummies, papyri and metal. Other galleries include those devoted to Mesopotamia, Assyria, Persia and Nubia. The Oriental Institute, established in 1919, is a museum and research organization dedicated to studying the ancient Near East.
