Chicago >Tcf Bank
A warning to all: TCF will steal your money!.
When I first opened a TCF account, it was pretty much out of necessity, I was receiving personal checks on a regular basis from a person who used TCF and the limit for cashing checks without an account there is $200. The day that I opened the account, they said that they would be charging me a $6 service fee and that my available balance would be $20 at the end of the workday. Eventually, they took the $6 out, four weeks later, when there wasn't enough in the account to withdraw it. They charged me $80 in overdraft fees and I grudgingly paid it.
About a month later, I deposited a check into my account and it sat pending for SEVEN DAYS. In those seven days, I couldn't eat lunch at work, get things I needed for my house, or even ride the bus! When that money finally showed up in my account, it was to the amount of $166. I spent $80 in one place, $15 in another, and $60 in another. When I should have had $11 left after everything, TCF says I have -$13. And, just today, I get a letter in the mail saying I only had $40 in funds in my account when I made my withdraws. So, where did the money go, TCF? Somehow, I'm supposed to be paying them $80 for the missing money.
Also, they only send me statements when I supposedly overdraft, and they're pretty neglectful when it comes to giving their customers information about THEIR OWN MONEY.
Bottom line-- There's a reason why TCF has to offer $50 gad cards for new accounts.
How does a bank "lose" your money?!!!.
I deposited my paycheck in person, to a teller (for which they charge $3) and see that the check listed as "pending" online. The next day it has mysteriously disappeared!
I call customer service who says that they "lost" the check (even though I deposited in person, have a deposit receipt and saw that it listed online). They say that they have to fill out paperwork and that it would not be resolved for 24-48 hours.
I had my company re-cut a new check and void the old one that the bank "lost". I deposited the second one to the bank's ATM, (safer than putting it in their hands again).
A week later I found that my debit/credit card was not working anymore!?
I went back to TCF who said there was a "hold" on the second check, and that even though the it was listed as "posted" for a week, the funds were still not available. They could not tell me what kind of "hold" this was or why, but that it would be unavailable until the end of the month!
Meanwhile, the bank still allowed automated charges to go through on my account, even though they would not make funds available to ME! As an added **** in the face they charged ME $15 for the voided check (remember the 1st check THEY lost which had to be replaced?)! The teller told me she would remove the charge but, as of now, days later, I still see the charge listed online!
I spoke to someone else recently who said that TCF did the same thing to him two years ago. They "lost" his paycheck and two weeks later they called him and told him that if he did not have proof of his deposit that they would be charging him for the "missing" money and associated charges!
I am opening a new account at a different bank ASAP.
TCF = Totally Crappy Financial institution!
