The Scene – Men, women and children have been getting their shoes at this North Side shop for more than 30 years. Specializing in expert fit and personalized service, Alamo carries brand names for less money than you would pay at a department store. Sales staff measure feet and adjust shoes for the best possible fit. Shoes are divided first by men, women and children and then by brand, with an assortment of accessories scattered around the store. – – The Goods – Whatever your shoe size, you'll find it here. They Give Sales a Bad Name

by FamilyW at Citysearch

I have been selling services for the better part of the last few decades; these shoe salesman give my profession a truly bad name. We were initially lured into the store by the prices on a few commonly available shoe styles. We were then pleased by the attention that the [presumably] store manager gave to us in the name of service.

But then the show began. A high-pressure salesman paraded out progressively more uninteresting and unsuitable pairs of shoes, under the apparent impression that we must just have a lower price point than the one he initially introduced. We attempted to explain that the children's boots were just "too girly," but his solution was to bring out less expensive pinks and purples, rather than potentially more suitable styles that matched what we were looking for. It almost seemed as if the store's stock was limited to these types of shoes and didn't really have any more of a selection.

After several attempts to sell us shoes in styles that we had clearly stated we didn't want, our shoe salesman shrugged his shoulders in a confused fashion, as if to suggest that we were being unreasonable by not purchasing the unsuitable shoes that he continued to present to us. When we repeated "thank you for your help" while walking away, the [presumably] store manager said: "Lovely. Sorry to bother you," with a clear ironic tone, apparently irritated that we had wasted his resources during that 12 minutes in the store without generating revenue.

We will not return to this store, and would not recommend any consumer who doesn't want his or her sensibilities insulted by two-bit sales tricks visit this store either. This was the the most unpleasant consumer experience that I have had in recent memory.

Remember The Alamo

by GorgeousGirl at Citysearch

I like all the shoes they have - its pretty cheap and they have an incredible selection of stuff. I always shop here because its near my work but if it wasn't near my work I'd still find time to go here. They have everything a good shoe store should have - lots of selection, low prices and great staff. Worth the effort to go check it out.

  • Pros: Pretty shoes
  • Cons: Way up on the north side

best prices

by dreyfuss at Citysearch

i know why customers return to alamo: they have a splendid selection and the best prices. however, as a previous reviewer already mentioned, customer service is HORRIBLE. i have been on the recieving end of an episode too. also, way too many salesmen who circle customers like vultures. given the economy however, customer service aside, the prices get you coming back!!

  • Pros: prices, selection
  • Cons: salesmen (yes, all men)
