The Scene
Fast becoming a staple on the northern fringe of Bucktown, Robin Richman is actually much bigger than it appears from outside. The atmosphere is steeped in antique chic, with vintage travel knickknacks, weathered clothes hangers mounted on the wall and slightly creaky floorboards. Owner and designer Richman is usually around and eager to talk about her pieces. Don't miss the back room packed with more merchandise.
The Goods
Richman creates her own fresh designs for each season and also carries a select set of international designers. What ties all the fashions together is a playful fusion of various patterns and fabrics worked together into individual stunning pieces. A co-ed shoe section featuers funky kicks from European designers. A nice assortment of beaded jewelry, purses, hats and Asian-inspired stationery rounds out the selection.

This is boutique shopping at its best. Not only are the designers they carry cutting edge and unique, the store is designed to be interesting and reflects the owner's quirky, yet excellent taste. It's hard to go in here without finding something you've never seen before and that you have to take home. It seems they work really hard to create a good shopping experience for the customer.

This is by far my favorite store in Chicago. There was a mixture of one of a kind spindly metal forms that held garments... tulle... reversible jackets... wooden eyeglasses...heat and steam stiffened cotton batiste skirts. A sales associate was gluing torn magazine images and words onto gift boxes. Texture, obscure colors, creative, creative, creative... PROS: great clothes, unusual displays CONS:

The major of the soft trendy clothes at Robin Richman is made by the designer herself. Along with a few other name brands she offers a fresh new collection for each season. The back room has other items of her collection, often for less. The cut and style of each of her pieces are really lovely and display what each season means to her in a fashion-sense. Definitely go during season sales where she marks down the old and brings in the new.
