Editorial Review for Nick's Pit Stop – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
Antique signs adorn the walls, but Nick's isn't about decor--it's about the poultry slowly cooking on a massive grill behind the counter. Served on the bone by the quarter, half or whole (white or dark), the chicken also arrives in chili, salad and pita sandwiches. Sides like mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese are also available, but they're little more than a distraction from the meat, which is tender and popping with flavor.

I've spent the summer staying at my brother's place who lives just behind Nicks PIt stop. They have the strongest, most potent, and absolutely horrific garbage I've ever smelled in my life. At first the smell just came from the garbage containers on the side of the restaurant. But then, the shockingly strong odor would permeate the entire area. At one point it seemed as if the sickening smell was coming out of their front door itself!! Apparently the food is awesome (this is usually the case with any restaurant frequented by cops). I don't know myself, as the nasty garbage odor has permanently ruined the place for me. From what I can tell, honestly, it just looks like people go there because they get huge portions for ridiculously cheap prices. I guess that's cool.

If you want the best "Chicago Style Hot Dog" visit Windy City Hot Dogs"!! Absolutely hands down, with the authentic taste of "The Windy City". Not to mention the Gyros, the home made sauce they use, oh my goodness!! I have to treat myself there, and not make it a habit to go everyday. The food is so good , you wont realize how much you are packing your face with. Everything from pizza puffs, to cheese fries. A classic fish selection, Corona Cod Fish? come on, go and visit, take your appetite and a good friend, they would think you were the best. The owner services you himself, very polite and friendly. He will take care of you. The way I am talking about it you would think I visited on a regular, today was my first visit, and I am hooked. I ordered a hot dog, and fries, but standing there waiting on my food, I smelled the aroma of fresh Gyro meat cooking. I had to order one, and so I did. It was delicious, I shared with my mom of course who was so satisfied with the texure of the meat, she ate mostly all of it. The sandwhich was very heavy and meaty, we split it three ways. I called the owner Nick, when we finished eating and informed him, that "He had it going on", and to keep up the good works!! Modestly he thanked me. He says a customer commented on his decor, saying it was "outdated? I love the window counter, the color, red with yellow brackets, the look of a old school hot dog stand. Please if you want to treat your self, or do like i did, eat in the car before you get home, stop by "windy City Hot Dogs"
