Great food, nice upstairs lounge, good prices. I've eaten at El Cid 2 several times, and thought the food was great--nice marinated shrimp, really good steak tacos, lots of salsa and chips, bartender let us sample a few different tequillas. Upstairs lounge really relaxed atmosphere, sofas, fireplace, no-rush vibe for dates or to just hang out, not too noisy either like some places get later on weekends. Prices not bad either.

very disappointed. I'd been a resident of Logan Blvd. and patron of El Cid's for many years. Having moved away, I was excited to dine at El Cid's again and enthusiastically described the place to the friend I brought along last night. The weather was perfect for outdoor dining so we sat in the back patio. The atmosphere seemed pleasant, but as we sat an odd smell began to permeate. We thought it might be someone's perfume so we asked to move to another table. Sadly, it was not another diner's perfume, it was an incense El Cid's was using throughout the patio. Cooking 101 might tell us NOT to use incense or scented candles while dining!!! It was awful. We stayed, however. I was sure the food would make up for the uncomfortable ambience. NO. Someone in the kitchen forgot spices. It was bland. It was served at room temperature. I was embarrassed. Don't bother going there. There are many many better Mexican restaurants in the city.

Patio is great but food lacks seasoning and service was lame. I was extremely excited when we arrived and went to the back patio, it seemed perfect!! Then we waited, and waited and waited. I thought okay it's Saturday night they are busy but the servers were sitting on a bench gabbing and laughing and finally one of them decided to come over. The drinks, starters and entrees all arrived at the same time and no room to put anything so they took our entrees back into the kitchen. The tamales for starters were good but when the entrees were brought out for the third time well, obviously they were cold, but my main complaint is that they were bland. Very bland. I had to ask for pico, sour cream and guac and I got a paper plate with a spoonful of each slathered on it and charged a buck for each!! We waited forever for a second round of drinks and again the waitstaff just hanging out . It took our server forever to get us the bill. Sorry but it was a let down. The atmosphere is great and the drinks were great, I could live with the bland food if I just ordered apps and they brought extra pico etc... but the service ruined the chance of a return. As a server myself I can sympathize with a busy section but this was just a joke, I really think they were drinking some of the pitchers themselves!!

Fun and Yum. This is my first review here and after reading the "not recommended" review, I felt obligated to tell the public the more standard view of El Cid 2. The upstairs lounge the first reviewer was referring to was new at the time. Its a cute, lounge-like atmosphere with a full bar and a fantastic range of tequilas. At first they had a different menu then the more traditional taco joint downstairs. But now the downstairs menu is available in the lounge as well. The lounge also features an additional "light bites" menu. They have fantastic margharitas and cocktails and it's a great date atmosphere. The back patio is tucked away with Latin music playing in the background, remenicent of a tiki bar. There is also a small front patio where you can dine on warm afternoon looking out over the boulevard. I highly recommend El Cid. I've been going there for years.

Disappointment. I am rarely critical of food, but el Cid did nothing for me. The steak fajitas had absolutely no flavor. Seasoning anyone? The rice and refried beans were lumped onto the plate reminiscent of junior high cafeteria food. The guacamole was $7. You may be thinking okay, $7 I would pay that for good guac. Except, the guac was nothing to write home about and it came in a bowl only big enough for two people. Save your time and head next door to Azucar for authetic taste.

Cold food - slow service.. 11-15-2007 had a group of 11 people go to the restaurant last night for a birthday dinner. The restaurant had a newly decorated upstairs with a very limited menu. We requested a menu that included tacos as we thought based on previous reviews that this was a traditional mexican restaurant and we were surprised that they only had a limited menu. The server brought us the "real" menu that the restaurant use to use ( which they use downstairs) that included many great dishes however, they are trying to go to a more "upscale" restaurant and the prices on the old menu were different than the prices on the new menu. We questioned our server and he went and got the manager - not a great experience. We ended up getting a bill which itemized the burrito, sour cream guacamole, chips, etc. I think you get where this is going as they don't tell you that everything is ala carte but that is the way the bill ends up. Needless to say it was my 1st and last experience going there.

Friendly service, average food, too expensive!!!. I think everybody in Logan Square LOVES El Cid... Except me!!! A few years ago, I used to frequent it because it was cheap, everybody there is quite nice, they have a great outdoor patio, and the food is edible. WELL, all that changed when they raised the prices about 25% about 2 years ago. Now, I feel like I'm paying above average prices for the same average meal.

Amazing deal!. I live across the street from El Cid and I love it. The food is good and inexpensive. The service is amazing! The waittresses are always so friendly. SOmetimes the food has taken a long time, others it came out pronto. The best part of El Cid is the patio in the summer. Go just for the patio!

A Fun TIme!. I live right around the corner from El Cid and had been searching for a fun Mexican Restaurant for awhile before I stumbled upon it. The food is great (I highly recommend the Chimichanga Burrito with Skirt Steak) and the Margaritas are strong and cheap. We showed up with a big party on a Saturday night, got seated quickly and had fantastic services. Every time I have been my server has been friendly and efficient, and I have had no complalints about the food. And for an added bonus, they have a great outdoor patio seating area when the weather is nice! And best of all, everything was cheap!
