The Scene
Blink and you'll miss it. Nestled into the second and third floors of a nondescript loft space, the only indicators of this low-key establishment are a few banners and a narrow, vegetated entryway. The staff, busy cataloging the lacquered treasures, is knowledgeable without putting on airs.
The Goods
Museum-quality with architectural pedigree. Royal colors and dark woods flood the 8,000-square-foot showroom with an imperial feel. Statues of Taoist gods, desks fit for a diplomat and hand-woven Nepalese rugs are interspersed with art deco upholstered chairs, apothecary chests and cabinets with crackled finishes. Tiny slippers and prints of Asian women peddling cigarettes hint at erotica, while gracious silk dresses are too pretty to wear and too costly not to. Upstairs, a canopy of lanterns looms above trunks and consoles bathed in brilliant reds and greens, and stacks of delicate rugs and beautiful pottery round off the zen-suous experience.
