Editorial Review for Silver Cloud Bar & Grill – by Meghan McEwen
The Scene
Lots of woodwork and dim lighting set a mellow mood; booths line one wall, and small tables are scattered in the back. Voices are low, with no shouting across tables necessary--a Saturday night rarity in this town.
The Food
Mostly comfort food, dinners come nostalgically close to Mom's specialties: chicken pot pie, pot roast, pork chops with sweet potato casserole and blackened catfish hit home. Lemon garlic chicken is juicy and flavorful, and salmon au gratin is tasty but comes with bones (to our surprise). With 12 beers on tap--most of which are microbrews--and more than 15 bottled beers, you're bound to find something to your taste. Silver Cloud also boasts a pretty impressive martini and cocktail list, including the trendy autumnal apple martini.

Silver cloud is great for those Sunday mornings when you are a mess from the night before and can’t wait to have a really fat day. It all starts off with a snazzy bloody mary that’s basically a meal in a glass. Then after a huge eggs benedict (with tatter totts yuuuum) and a side of mac and cheese or pancakes, depending on your mood, you are basically in a serious food coma. It's soooo good and totally worth the calories.
Pros: great bloody marys

I judge my experience primarily on the following; quality of the meal, service, wine list and ambiance/decor. The meal part they got all wrong. I ordered the breaded pork chop special that came with corn and mashed potatoes -- NOTHING was seasoned. Bland and flavorless. The 2 different glasses of wine I had were rather blah and uninspiring. The ambiance was alright and the one thing they got right was the service -- stellar. Overall, this is an alright if you're looking for an affordable meal in the Bucktown area.
Pros: close to el
Cons: bland food
