“awesome pizza ambiance and service”
“the only drawback is that the bar atmosphere is not exactly favorable to high quality sophisticated dining, but if you are looking for a quality pizza and a few good beers to spend some time, no better place.”
“You get a good deal on a good pizza.”
“Vito and Nick's restraurant at 8435 S. Pulaski Ave is without doubt the best pizza in this city, I dare anyone is say different, this isn't a franchise establishment like Gino's or Lou Malnanis, or any place which sprecializes in deep dish pizza.”
“The decor is 50's cornball all the way and service can get slow, but the pizza is truly a delight.”
“For a few bucks more I could have had an 18" Palermo's pizza with a nice thin crust, superb sauce and a lot more sausage, better tasting too.”
“We now live in Erie, CO. & cannot find ANY pizza out here that can measure up to the authentic & homemade pizza we had within a few minutes drive from our house in Evergreen Park.”
Vito & Nick's has an astoundingly entertaining interior with carpet on the walls and has a 70's vibe. Pizza here is equally creative and delicious. Patrons of this restaurant are rabid and passionate about the pies and keep the place filled every night of the week. Fantastically good!
Vito & Nick's - wish you were here!!. For years our family has enjoyed the great pizza at Vito & Nick's. We now live in Erie, CO. & cannot find ANY pizza out here that can measure up to the authentic & homemade pizza we had within a few minutes drive from our house in Evergreen Park. When we visit relatives, V&N is our first stop. For those of you that can partake of this great pizza, we envy you!
The best. Period. End of discussion..
My grandparents were the very first customers at Vito and Nick's way back when. My father and aunts grew up on this pizza. THIS is the real Chicago-style pizza - not that over-doughy, gooey bread with bland sauce that passes for pizza.
If you don't live in the area, do yourself a flavor (pun intended) and order their frozen pizza online and have them shipped to your home. When eating it, you may not be in 7th Heaven as if you were getting it directly fresh from Nick's, but it's at least 6th Heaven!
All those who prefer thick crust pizza have never eaten at Vito and Nick's or they are seriously deranged - and I mean that in the nicest possible way. ;-)
This is the way pizza is supposed to taste. Except no substitutes. Life is too short.
Why this is in here, who knows. Well I must say that Vito and Nix is good pizza but I certainly never thought it would rate in one of the best Chicago Pizzas. I am a spokeman on this manner and am a native Chicago Southsider. And anyone that has got to put in their reviews that New York is the Pizza Capital in the Universe, "Go Back to New York!" I think the reason that it is here however is that good south side pizza might be dwindling and Vito and Nix just stood the test of time and is still there. And no one that live's in this area has a choice. Anyone living on Kolmar would certainly order this pizza over Dominoes being it is a real pizza but if you are coming to Chicago and want to taste what Chicago pizza is all about, I would not go out of my way to come to Vito and Nix. Why? It is just your average Chicago Southside pizza that has been copied so much through the years it really has no taste of it's own. Nothing distinct and the bathroom smells. And is is not like a bite is going to send you off in the stratosphere. I would not want a New Yorker to come to Chicago and eat here, it might ruin our reputation as to what Chicago pizza is all about. This pizza is nothing like the long gone great places of the Likes's of Chesdans and Bo's pizza and it is just your average Chicago Pizza and if you want a pizza that represents what Chicago pizza is, this is not the place. Move on to Home Run inn or Giordano's . There is good pizza and bad pizza in Chicago Just like New York and anyone thats says New York is the Pizza Capital in the universe has some homework to do but don't start at Vito and Nix, that was your first mistake.
Vito & Nick's.
You want thin crust? Don't you dare go anywhere else. There ain't another pizza joint that knows how to do it like Vito & Nick's Been goin there for 35 years and it's still the same, so is the furniture, but who cares it's a pizza joint?
South Pulaski won't be the same if it ever closes. I read about the original owner, who died about 3 years ago, Nick. He may be dead, but his pizza isn't and will live on forever. This is still a family owned establishment and must have the recipe embedded in their heads.
They recently opened a new restaurant in Lemont @ the old Lemont Lanes on State St. If you like updated ambiance, and the same pizza for the best price inthe area, go there! If you're looking for banquet facilities from the same cook, go there. I just go there for the pizza..............It's still the best Nick, wherever you are!
If you're looking for cons, it ain't in this review! They do no wrong here, in Chicago or Lemont!
Best pizza in Chicago bar none. Vito and Nick's restraurant at 8435 S. Pulaski Ave is without doubt the best pizza in this city, I dare anyone is say different, this isn't a franchise establishment like Gino's or Lou Malnanis, or any place which sprecializes in deep dish pizza. I am originally from New York, THE pizza capital in the universe, and this my friends is about as close to perfection as it gets. I absolutely hate deep dish, it's pure garbage ok, stick a loaf of bread in the oven, throw a bunch of cheese and tomato sauce and you have deep dish, not in this place! It emphasizes about flavor than substance. Remember it is not about quantity, but quality. I highly suggest the pepperoni and green pepper dish, my favorite. the only drawback is that the bar atmosphere is not exactly favorable to high quality sophisticated dining, but if you are looking for a quality pizza and a few good beers to spend some time, no better place. The others are pretenders, take it from me, I have been to these places, and I will only go to Vito and Nick's.
only the best pizza ever!!!. I was brought here by my aunt and uncle who swore this was the best and they were right. I live in the northwest suburbs and will drive all that way just for their pizza!! I love everything about vitos & nicks and everyone I've ever brought falls in love with this place!
Great pizza but clean this dump.
Yes the pizza is great. But the bathrooms have not been updated or in the case of the men's john not cleaned since Eisenhower was president. When the door to the men's john opens, the smell of air freshener and filth can knock you out.
Since the cooks are all men and are using the same smelly john, I can no longer eat there.
Stay Away!. I just "had" to try this pizza my friends were going on and on about. We tried two pizzas - Sausage, Mushroom and Onion & Pep. Both pizza's were burnt on the edges with spots in the center that were burnt - this, of COURSE, made it bitter. The rest of the pizza's were bland, bland, bland. The only thing I really tasted was the mushrooms that were very good, thick and fresh. That was the ONLY good thing about the 2 I tried. We also got some bread before the meal that was so rock hard I could have used it to balance the wobbly table with. DO NOT GO!
My Hometown!!. Ahh!! I was so excited to see that Vito and Nick's was on the "best of" list!!! I live in Denver now and can't find a pizza to save my life!! I've been going to Vito and Nicks since I was a kid and nothing compares to it! We stop in everytime we are in town and order two pies. One to eat there and one to bring on the plane home!! Mmmm I can just smell it!!
Thin Crisp Flavorful = Heaven!.
A buddy brought me to Vito & Nick's around 5 years ago. We were out bowling & needed some food. Being a Vito & Nick's virgin ... I thought my friend was crazy when he ordered the largest size pizza for just the two of us. He said just wait ... and order another beer.
Anyhow - the pizza arrived & it smelled fantastic! I went for a piece and as I lifted it toward my mouth I was shocked at how thin it was. I sunk my teeth in - "crunch" went the crust & "WOW!" went my tastebuds. It was so delicious & thin that we had 4 pieces left, which I saved to bring home for my wife. Needless to say, she loved it & we now go there as often as possible.
